It's a children's book of the sort that can uncharitably be described as having been churned out for the money without a great deal of attention to characterisation etc. I have only read it because DD wanted to have it read to her when she was little. I will not be reading it again unless and until I have grandchildren who insist on it.My present challenge is reading the collection of Father Brown short stories by GK Chesterton .
Somebody lent me the complete Father Brown when I was on a summer placement as a student, in a foreign country where I knew nobody, and in pre-internet days. It saved my sanity, I think.I have felt quite envious as everyone has posted about coursera but know I do not have the mental capacity or energy presently for something like that.
That's how I feel too. Perhaps you and I can do it together when it comes round again.lemonjelly wrote: »Mortgage fee & solicitors cheque appear to have gone from the bank account!
Yay! When do we all get to come and help move all your boxes as an excuse for a meet-up?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Because to the people at the bottom of the financial pile, $5 for the doctor would have to come out of the budget for something else.
if these people had to pay to see the doctor, they would put off going about things that were important and necessary..
I know of people who had seen a GP but then could not afford to have the prescription dispensed if one was written.:(
One such person found it was their good fortune when they became diabetic and so exempt prescription charges.
although you can buy 'season tickets' and you can plan this if you have ongoing conditions, it is the poor who are suddenly in need of prescription medicine that can struggle. It gets worse if (for example) the anti bugs bought are ineffective and a second different lot prescribed. That could be £15 in a week.0 -

I will keep extensive notes on the bath.
"April" is a bit vague. When in April? The beginning or the end?
Will look forward to reading about the bath.
Still think it is ridiculous that the only way you can have hot water is by not having phone and internet.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I didn't feel like it was the greatest of value in terms of money spent for how many hours I expect were spent on it. But if/ when I buy again I expect I'll still get a full survey done.
I got to the point where it felt like I was sending rather large amounts of money to lots of people so what difference would another cheque make?0 -

Some of the best money I ever spent was on a homebuyer's survey on a house I didn't buy because of what it said - or rather what the surveyor told me over the phone, because after I'd heard it I opted for the reduction in the fee for not having a written report.
See my post of 9/3/10 on page 7 of my house buying thread elsewhere for more details.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Most useful is if the surveyor says walk away, though then you could walk without the report being written up and save some money.

Finishing books is an aim for me, though, I feel it's cheating not to. It bothers me if I don't.I used to feel like that, now I have decided if I really can't get on with it I won't finish it. I have also decided not to feel guilty if I don't finish a book, and so far that has worked.
I really struggle to give up on a book, but have become slightly better at it over the last few years - have perhaps given up on fewer than 10, but that's more than I ever managed before!
I got 40 on that list, although 1 of those was a bit of a cheat as the full Narnia chronicles was one tick, and the Lion Witch & Wardrobe was anotherLots of Austen / Bronte, and some O Level texts too.

Doozer is in London on Thursday. He loves it when I pimp him
out for free. :rotfl: To be fair to me, I'm also the only one that charges him out.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The head of customer services has given me a worst case scenario date mid April.
We had a couple of other options we could have tried. I could have had new units fitted then removed pole just a foot away from them, for example, but, don't fancy that one.
I feel its a good option tbh.
I'm feeling its a good opportunity to take some time to think about stuff without more pleasant distraction. I really do feel its win win.
