I could be in a hot bath and a warm house by Tuesday night. Hot water, out of a TAP!!!!!!!!!!imagine how easy it will be to do things like cleaning, and how coming into a warm house will feel!!!!!

You are spoiling yourself:D - enjoy the experience. I'm with Spirit, I couldn't ahve done it, especially last year when it was soooo cold.

There are a lot of wasters out there who would rather spend half a day in a waiting room than a whole day at work.

The morning I have had, I could turn into a waster, seems preferable to dealing with drivers:mad:

I had the biopsy done. The doctor wanted to do it without a local! I soon put him off that idea!

He hit a bit that hadn't been numbed and it really bloody hurt so I'm glad I got him to dull the pain. It's already starting to hurt. Ouchy.

Anyway, results out on Tuesday so I can make an appointment for any time after that. I'll do it so it clashes with an annoying meeting.

    Ouch. Ouch. Ouch

    I feel like that too.

I take your point. However, free appointments still have to be available for people on low income - the sort of people to whom $5 would be a really big deal - to make sure they don't put off going when they really ought to go, and end up getting much worse as a result. And those are precisely the people most likely to feel that their time hasn't much value.

I'm not convinced there's a big population of people for whom a $5 charge would be a deterrent to a time-wasting visit but not a deterrent to a necessary one.

Even at a distance, I feel excited about this for you. :D I still don't understand how you can have been without basic 20th century technology for so long, but I'm so looking forward to reading your posts about enjoying hot water. Except that if you no longer have a phone line and can't post....

Why does it have to be free? $5 is the price of a beer or a hot chocolate. I understand that British people fetishise fred because of the NHS. Other systems work better because they charge.

Got 29 of them read. Seems we're only expected to have read 6 of them. I think it looks like a great list!

Your time has real value. I imagine you earn well over the average income for London and while you're earning that you're spending time away from Isaac. When you're not working, most time away from Isaac and NDB is time wasted thus going to see a GP for a frivolous reason has a very high cost to you.
It amazes me how little people realise their time is one of the most valuable things they have. I had a friend who was leaving his home at 6, to arrive at work for 8, to then leave at 4.30, to get home at 7.30. He'd wash, eat, sleep, and repeat. 2 years he did that. Mental.

I'm tarnished by my experience with my last employer, but I work to afford the things that matter. The time outside work is where the important things happen, friends, family, hobbies, things we love. I want to make the most of that time.

24 for me. I do have a few on that list in my collection that I haven't read yet. I have a fairly large bookcase with about 60 books on that I have yet to read.:o

I've read 50 - more than I would have guessed, or 50.5, as I got part way through Captain Corelli's Mandolin and then zzzzzzzzzzz

Did include Germina by Zola, I have read most of his works and I rate him as one of the best authors EVER!

    No guilt!

Me, my Mum and my sister all entertained similar thoughts while my Dad was dying of Alzheimer's. At one point I decided to tie a fishing wire across the top of the stairs. That was at the point when he was getting violent and it looked like he was going to be treated as a social rather than a medical case which would mean minimum state-paid help, if any at all so there would be no end to Mum's suffering.

I ended up getting drunk and forgetting I'd thought about doing that. Probably for the best in hindsight.

This is an extremely insightful book which you might even find helpful ex-post:

Thanks very much. I have bought that for DW. I hope she finds it helpful.

It was one of the things that helped Mum get through some very dark days, understanding that the hatred and the love were all part of the same thing.
