It's interesting to see the difference in the treatment of Crow and Thatcher in death.
This, for example is nothing but respectful:

I think the reason is that Thatcher made a real difference to the UK.
There are very few people who change history and those people always are hated by a lot of people.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Well today I rang the outpatient clinic to cancel my Monday 17th appointment and rebook.
They answered the phone after about 4 rings and offered me an appointment for 31st March.0 -
Bob Crow's role was to improve things for his members, their subscriptions kept him in a job. It was not about improving passenger services.
That there were consequences for passengers who would vocalise their dissatisfaction with the disruption, would have contributed to his 'success' in the role.0 -
Not quite yet. Give me time. I don't have the time for World Domination while the kids are so young.
When they're older though...?

I'd be a great dictator.
I thought your username was just very good forward-planningI was thinking (especially where I work) that as 3m Londoners expressed the sentiments about what a fine man he was they also gave a silent sigh of relief that there may be fewer tube strikes now....
We were talking about this at work today; I wondered whether it could actually have the opposite effect.
When a leader comes to the end of their leadership role, whether through a coup or retirement, then the next leader is generally free to take the role forward in their own way.
Whereas here, the leader's style / approach risks becoming almost revered by those who are left - with the desire to emulate and carry on his legacy / approach.
Thus a risk of even greater militancy, because after all it 'worked for Bob'.0 -
Everytime people complain about tube fares going up there never seems to be any mention of the inflation busting pay rises for the employees possibly being a factor...I think....0

When you initially booked it was the choice offered? Just out of curiosity....choose and book is never offered to us. If forewarned (i.e. If I have a clue what's up) I am able to think where I might be referred and look and see to whom I would like to be referred (private) or to where (NHs).
Had I known what I now know I might have opted otherwise for neurology:rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I was not offered a choice, but could go back and ask. My GP practice does not seem to like referring to the local Teaching Hosp, and as the DGH is old but in a 'posh' county town I think it is perceived as having a different type of patient.0 -

All interesting. Its JUST. At the ground water level ATM , digger guy scraped for me to get this snap.
Shall we tell the time team people that perhaps an archaeological dig might be n orderI think....0 -

One is needed in my garden too. At least an exploratory trench in the veg patch, and there is possibly something interesting to unearth if they dig deep enough, in the flattened mud that used to pass for borders.0 -

Davesnave hazards a guess at maybe a grain store? DH read arch and anth. He loves the idea of digs. But PLEASE let me get one area of garden in and done, I've been fairly patient considering we're two years behind on that. If the bricks looked roman I'd be in there too.
I would love to know, but I wonder if we ever would?0
