The "Search This Thread" button at the top of the page is really useful. With it, one can search for who said what about Bob Crow - all perfectly reasonable and justified at the time. However, not looking quite so nice people-ish, given today's news. It seems that one should never speak ill of the living, because they may be dead sooner than one expects. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Very true. I said something not particularly complimentary on facebook just a few weeks ago. I thought the same as you've just said, a couple of hours ago.
He has very big boots to be filled.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I never said anything nasty about Bob Crow in my life.
Very tempted to, now that everyone's saying what a fine upstanding man he was. The hypocrisy of it is getting on my goat a little bit, particularly when it's Boris saying it. He did his job, was well paid for it, and still lived in a council house even though he could afford to buy his own.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I always think its odd when people think its weird when people who are hated are lauded after their death. I think it soothes OUR consciences somewhat maybe? Similarly, its sad when we cannot think of anything positive to say at all and reflects as poorly on us.
I really like the name 'Crow' because I am fairly fond of the word corvid and crows are incredibly cleverer adaptable. I love animal names.0 -

I was one of them, and I don't regret it or take it back now he's dead.
If you can't criticise the dead, and can't criticise the living in case they die, and awful lot goes unsaid that ought to be said, IMO.
I think the hypocrisy from Boris et al arises from our general fear of our own mortality....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I don't regret what I said about Bob Crowe either. He had a very strong personality. Those strong personalities often lead to the public forming a strong opinion. It was the same with Margaret Thatcher.
The only thing that surprised me is that I expected him to be older than 52.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I was thinking (especially where I work) that as 3m Londoners expressed the sentiments about what a fine man he was they also gave a silent sigh of relief that there may be fewer tube strikes now....I think....0

Crows, the birds, usually are long lived.0 -
Today I asked openreach to take away my phone line as a last ditch attempt to speed things up. Even they have admitted that what's happened here is pretty deplorable, and their measures to repair relations are not half measures, either, and sincere apologies ARE very soothing! but never the less we must progress. I want a hot bath more than I want a phone line certainly.
If this is the quickest route forward than, I might be offline for a while. I thought I better say so no one wonders .....0 -
It's interesting to see the difference in the treatment of Crow and Thatcher in death.
This, for example is nothing but respectful:
