w build opened about 2 years ago. My only concern is that I get to go to 3 different hospitals for various bodily parts, which is why I welcome a single NHS core health record instead of having records everywhere.
.
Fwiw, i take a file with me collating letters from different consultants and all my test results. Its a big red lever arch:rotfl: and had the stuff NHs don't have on records too.
I don"t think your feeling is of worried well. Its sensible, its not worrying people its having right teams on hand to keep things blips or concerns rather than worse.
Its like......if you know you have a 'tricky' young horse you put the experienced professional on him not the game teenager. Both are capable, but one is still more suitable for the particular case.
You are the particular case spirit!0 -
DW is grieving for her lost mother, even though she hasn't lost her yet. I guess that, realistically, DW has lost about 60-70% of her mother so far. The other 30-40% is hanging on in an increasingly frail body.
On the plus side, MIL's back in her own home, that she's familiar with. She's got the mutt with her, and she gets lots of attention. She's well looked after, with 24 hour care, and she's comfortable/not in pain. She can just about make it from her bed to the couch in her sitting room, but that's about it. She gets coaxed to eat a bit.
But, she's got nothing to do, and no interest in doing anything. Basically, she's just waiting.
Radio 5 has a great podcast by an Australian Doctor and Physicist called Dr Karl.
He talks about having a 'good death'. We're all going to die one day so the best we can hope for is a long life and a good death at the end.
Thinking back, my Dad's death wasn't so bad for him although it was pretty awful for the rest of us. If she's in good surroundings with the mutt and the family and no pain then that's a pretty good place to be. I wouldn't mind that.
I've been reading for that course. I knocked off the book this morning and now I'm doing the pre-reading. Fascinating stuff, amazing. I used something I learned in an internal communication today which was pretty cool.0 -
Blimey Gen, you are keen! I really like that we are studying together. I think there could be times over the next 8 weeks that will be very handy.
I enjoy behavioural economics as a stream. I also found the NYT article interesting: that traditional economists knew that there was a behavioural element, but that this was swept a desire in order to write equations and make it more scientific. Humans don't always behave rationally, we all know that and are living breathing embodiments of it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

There is something about gen's keenness that makes me feel slightly uneasy - like he is going to use his newfound insight to advance his plans to take over the world :rotfl:0 -

There's been a bit of research over the last few years that shows the difference between doctors and lay patients in the kind of death they choose. Doctors are significantly more likely to turn down all kinds of medical intervention - from chemo to intubation - with the one exception being pain killer medication which they want as much of as possible.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Oh so there's a book! A first book! Sounds expensive.:(
(Hides wallet in the secret compartment of the sporran. Resolves to never let it see daylight till the end of Lent.)
I believe that viva is borrowing them from the library. There is a kindle bundle for under £9 for 3 books which I splashed out on. If he's after a boost in book sales in return for running a course for free then I can live with that0 -

Not quite yet. Give me time. I don't have the time for World Domination while the kids are so young.
When they're older though...?

I'd be a great dictator.0 -
I have a feeling that really determined dictators don't let a little issue like child rearing get in their way........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Well I started on the Kahneman. That's a wee bit tougher.
I gave up after 10 pages (I excuse myself with tiredness and the cartoons in the background). I'll read it on the bus in the morning and go sit in the park to finish it before work if necessary.
The worst thing is I've read about most of those experiments previously it's just the language that's the problem. Something to get used to I guess.0
