    I've been Money Tipped!
I hope he can hold on to that feeling A family friend (sone of a closer family friend) now works with a successful non faith orientated drug rehabilitation programme in the US. Its taken him decades to turn it around, but when he did he really did.

I know someone very involved in local aa and na. When we moved I was convinced to instead of using a fencing firm use the 'back to work sort of programme through one of the drugs schemes connected locally. It was a bit of a drag frankly but I was hopeful about using a scheme that was helpful. Sadly I don't think it is that successful.

Your brother was wonderful. Its something to remember. MNy, (most?) would struggle to act as clearly as he did from the sound of it.

Hope the baby is ok going forward.

Good on him for this but nothing really changes. Bad people do good things and good people do bad things.

Maybe this is a positive reinforcement for your brother to stay clean. I wouldn't count on it (I know a fair bit about addiction 1st and 2nd hand) but we should live in hope.

Are there that many people who are bad and good? There are people mainly, surely, and the really bad ones or the especially saintly are the anomaly.

I feel very lucky that I escaped drug addiction, and alcoholism. I don't feel proud of it but lucky as it just happened that way.

We will see. Long may it last.

He has at least two good reasons for staying clean, aged eight and fourteen, however as an addict that is not enough usually. In the last two years he has had very aggressive treatment for cancer and now only eats prescription milk shakes yet that has not stopped him.

I think it was more that he believes it was the will of god/higher power that he could answer the door.

I looked at details of a flat on Rightmove today. The flat is about 12 miles from here on a modern popular estate.

The flat has a balcony and the details described panoramic views. I am imagining countryside, landscape whilst knowing it will not compare with Gen's Sydney harbour vista.

The picture from the balcony was of the roundabout and access road on to the estate.

It was almost worthy of the "have a look at this" thread (except I am a bit uncomfortable with that).

Lesson For Today: NHS receptionists don't like it if you laugh

But sometimes, what else can you do?

I was told to go to reception to make an appointment to discuss how Aethelbald will make his entry into the world. When I did so, the earliest appointment she offered me was 30th May, which is quite a long time after the issue will have resolved itself (12th or 14th May, depending on how you count).

She got all huffy, said it was the first appt available, and I had to go and drag the midwife out again to sort it.

Oh, dear, this is asking for trouble...

But you're not going to call him/ her that, are you?

No. But OH is being so awkward about names (they have to go with his surname, be recognisable both here and in Israel, which means Old Testament really, and lastly, and most difficultly, OH has to like it) that I've taken to calling the baby the most unlikely and non-Jewish names I can think of, to encourage him to turn his mind to actual ones.

This week, it's Aethelbald. Last week was Mohammed - which would be recognised both here and in Israel, and goes well with the surname, come to think of it.

Fair enough...Names are a difficult one. Can't you ask him to write a list of, say, ten approved names and then you chose the one(s) that you want.

Edit: Also, http://www.cutebabynames.org/jewish-baby-names.aspx?originID=33 might be helpful?

He can only think of one he sort-of could live with, writing a list of 10 is difficult......
