Thin end of the wedge...... watch that.

Here are two examples of how the wedge grows:

[1] You buy things, to make your house nicer.... now they need furniture to stand on, or to contain them. You buy that furniture. Now you have to move it, dust it and insure it. And it makes your space smaller.

[2] Take the case of a table. You think you want a table (no idea why, a tray's good enough - got friends? get two trays) ... so, you have a table. Now you need a table cloth - but you need one for best and one for everyday ... then one for Xmas. Then a plastic one for Xmas that's wipable for when your "Xmas best" one's in the wash or awaitng Xmas day before it's used. Now you need nice placemats ... and nicer dishes ... and it all starts to take on a life of its own. Before you know it you've spent £3000 on the table and items for the table ... and now you need furniture to hold those placemats and special dishes etc.... (see item [1] regarding furniture and things). So now you've a smaller room, and you're paying more on insurance to insure the £3000 of table and goodies ..... or, less insurance and two trays does the job :)

Don't worry PN, the wedge is currently wafer thin. Think I personally have spent about £75 on house stuff since moving (and my parents about £150 or whatever it was in Ikea). Don't think I've added too much to the GDP (yet) :)

It is so true.......we are living with almost zero possessions at the moment and not really missing out at all on anything...just less cleaning and tidying up to do.

Back to the vinyl debate .

OH does want to buy a record player and set it up somewhere...so that means creating the space for it, buying it (and that will have to be a wizzy one that connects to a PC I guess), getting a cupboard to put the vinyl in.
    And what for?
He doesn't spend his evenings listening to records anymore. Nor do I.

.....and then there are the CD's, tons of the things and we don't have a CD player either.
I want to flog the lot......

I have quite a bit of vinyl, too, even some 12 inch singles, and need a complete system including turntable, amp and speakers to play them. I have no idea what to buy. I fancy one of those bits of kit to transfer the vinyl into digital format.
Any ideas where to start? Are Richer Sounds worth looking at?

Nikkster - did you ever get a sofa? Just seen this site mentioned in a thread where somebody's asking for sofa places. http://www.nabru.co.uk

Thanks PN. Will try and remember to bookmark. Not actively looking as such, the delightful floral 3 piece suite which was left is likely to be here for quite some time as other things are higher up my list. Always good to have another site for daydreams though :)

I've no idea if they're any good, or if their prices stack up ... but they intrigue me. You build it yourself, which means it's a bit of effort, but good for people with tricky access, or who might move again..... and they are instant despatch too, no waiting.

I was also intrigued by their unusual sizes and small corner sofa.

With me it'll come down to price at the end of the day, but if I end up choosing between one of theirs or another and there's £20 difference and theirs arrives in a few days then they'd get my business.

Also, re building it myself ... there's a video to watch, but I'd have no qualms about adding it to a "small jobs list" and getting a little man in for half a day to do odd jobs.
