Hope you feel better later, LIR. <hugs>
Being a barrister in a Chambers is a great middle-ground. I'm responsible for all my own work, and decisions, and I like that. But there's also the clerking system and office facilities, and colleagues to talk to....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I much prefer working for small companies. I have a very low tolerance of unnecessary meetings, management speak etc. Also, the application process is usually simpler - you send in your cv, they invite you in for interview and it becomes apparent within 5 minutes whether or not you would fit in.
.
You'd fit in with us! A mneeting usually involves shouting something across the office. As for our rigorous interview technique, we do the 5 - 10 minute chat thing as well.vivatifosi wrote: »That's not as straightforward as it should be in some cases. "
I knew you'd say something like that;), but you know what I mean!0 -

Sure I do... but any chance to drop a library anecdote:D. It is genuinely one of the funniest places I've ever worked. People say the most amazing things. And the public are, for the most part, really great. You never know what you are going to get when you walk through the door - that's what I love about it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I always used to interview people in a Pub, and if they didn't offer to buy me a drink (I would always refuse) then they were not the person for me !!!'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

It's also the only library she knows where, if anyone asks for books on Ethiopia, you have to know to go to the section marked Abyssinia.
I'd love to be a member, but couldn't afford the membership fee!
For prospective members - tours on Monday evenings.0 -

Done that as well with a manager;). Not sure it sends out the right message for a driver.
We once took a driver on that we'd interviewed over the phone - he drove to Gibralter every week, it was difficult to find a convenient time for us both.
This is cheering me up immensely, I kept hearing stories of frankly crazy interviews and thought I'd never get a job in the real world.0 -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-26341850It includes tweets such as: "I never give money to homeless people. I can't reward failure in good conscience."
Another example is: "Suit #1: 'Was that an earthquake?' Suit #2: 'No, I just dropped my wallet.'"
And another: "Some chick asked me what I would do with 10 million bucks. I told her I'd wonder where the rest of my money went."It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Very modest but your gaff must be worth well North of a million at the moment
Certainly not in the state its in at the moment, unless you like the exposed heating pipes and electric cables look!
Not even convinced it would be when it's tidy. The over inflating estate agent would suggest marketing it at some silly price, but that doesn't mean there are people paying it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Have any other NP tried the tooth brush shaped treats fro.M the pet sheds?
I don't often give stuff I don't know what's in but my guys really like these. I better find out what's in them. Big dog takea about ten seconds to eat a pigs ear, but is chomping on a tooth brush for long enough at least for me to type this message.
Kiwi has barely got into his at all, and dog dog is madly excited and is just running around the house with hers like a gadfly. (Not very typical)0 -

I work for a large organisation, and cannot drop any anecdotes. It is a confidentiality and public confidence thing.
I joined as a Temp, and chose it over a financial services job as it was easier to get to from the motorway.
After a couple of weeks I realised how much I loved the product, and really felt I could make a difference. Most days I still feel the same. I look forward to Mondays.0
