This is the reason why I gave up having an office. If I micro-manage, things get done right, but I rob people of their independence and initiative. If I don't micro-manage, things don't get done right. I could never find a middle course, and it was stressful for me and the people I managed.

Of course, the solution is not to mind that things are not done right and to appreciate that 'done differently' is not absolutely necessarily the same as 'done wrong', although it often was. :)

And my DW would by now be correcting my grammar "done correctly", "done wrongly", so we all have our hang-ups.

Her employers have just extended her contract by a year, so the paranoia about ageism was unjustified.

I am cool about vacuuming walls, just not under a time constraint as we had that day. Like yesterday, I was trying hard to remember we vacuum differently. (This morning I put the vacuum away , one of the things I am not meant to do is bend and lift which is why I asked RP to do that job fwiw). Its pieces were spread across four rooms, I'm still finding bits.

Fwiw, my walls were not dripping with filth, On that occasion There may have been a cobweb up high. It was one of those times one shouldn't admit to when the floor NEEDED a vacuum and someone was due in half an hour. Not a day to do anything but plug and run through. Maybe spray some furniture polish in the air to give the illusion of a clean house :o

Have you thought of getting one of those auto-vacuum things for the cats to ride on?

Everyday. They are under seven hundred for the good ones on John Lewis website. I think.

When we have solid floors not manky old carpets that need coaxing into like I think it might be worth it. It would definitely improve things I think.

I think kiwi would like opt the most.

    Has it sold yet?

Sorry michaels, accidentally deleted part if your quote and nightmare to reinstate on tablet. No, not yet. Personally I'd be astonished if it did go for that much. This particular house is always being sold. If they get at or around asking I will eat my hat.

When it comes to health systems I wonder if Australia suffers from the same problem as the US of over treatment, the specialists have every incentive to overtreat (more money for them) and a real downside legal risk if they could be considered to have under-treated or under investigated. this is the only advantage of NHS systems strictly controlled by budget that I can see, health costs less than 10% of GDP rather than closer to 20%.

I don't think we're overtreated here TBH, mostly because of part payment. If Medicare covers something, private insurance can't. As Medicare covers part of the cost of my diagnostics I can't claim any of the gap. That keeps people out of the system in the first place and not just poor people, it provides a disincentive for all.

If you go through a treatment program then you will face out of pocket expenses.

A month ago I would have agreed with you but in the last few weeks I have seen things go on at 100-150k (20-30%) more than similar sales last year and be under offer within a week or two, it will be interesting to see if the mortgages go through.
    I think....

The interesting thing here is stamp duty threshold. Last sale was slightly under, this is substantially over. Ceiling has kept prices a little lower than they should be. This will definitely push through, giving headroom for others to do same, question is by how much.

Stamp duty thresholds are a joke imo. Too many regular houses being penalised now.

In my entire life I have had exactly one interview of the come along and chat type. The rest of the time I was headhunted.....(kind of loses something in translation when you think I was a forklift driver at the time with an ability to stuff containers to the max:o).

I'm an extrovert, but only just probably, so I'd be rubbish as well tomterm. Been self-employed since '91 and like you, should I ever need to find work:eek:, I think I'd have the attitude problem - it's difficult if you are used to going your own way;).

I'm of the quiety confident, not wanting to blow my own trumpet, introvert kind too....I would do horrendously at anything other than a normal job interview and even then with current thinking, I would probably not do so well at that either!

I cannot bear show offs, all talk and no substance and have seen a few employed over the years, from their talk, you would think they were the best thing since sliced bread but in reality, they were all pretty crap at their jobs.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

We live in a pretty unexciting area, house price wise (in fact, we live in a pretty unexciting area).

Our next door neighbours have neen on the market since around June. They went under offer in Jan at very close to the asking price, which they didn't reduce. More than they bought for at the start of 2008 - our house looks worse than it did back then and they share the enviable position of being attached to us.

I also know the owner of an estate agency. They are running out of houses to sell and they are even selling houses at over the asking price. That has not been a local characteristic in the 11 years I've been here.

    Is it Help To Buy?

Think we are finally catching up with things here too. Had a look on Rightmove last night and some of the prices were . There is a house in the road next to where my parents live and the price is just astronomic, much more than I would have estimated, good news for my parents though as their road is generally more expensive than the one next door due to off road parking (worth its weight in gold being sea front area properties), bigger gardens, bigger rooms and generally just a lot more space in the road/paths/houses.

Still, it was 70k more than I had estimated their house at and nearly 100k more than my parent's valuation.

There are also a lot more houses going on the market at higher prices which are then being sold very quickly, some within a day, although weirdly, there are others which are still being advertised at the old prices but still sticking on the market.

There is one house though, that if it goes for anywhere near the asking price, I will probably faint from shock...it's in the area worst hit by the big floods of 53, on the main road, in quite a rough area. Not quite sure what the estate agent was on when he/she valued it but I don't think any house on that road has sold for even half of what they are asking!

For me Help to Buy etc were definitely a factor. I started feeling quite strongly that if I was going to keep the last however many years of saving as an advantage I'd better get a move on!

That and I was getting fed up of renting - I definitely made it work for me (easier to move around, was happy renting as cheaply as possible), but I'm not sure I could have faced finding somewhere else again.
