One of my neighbours has put their house on the market. Was astonished when I saw how much. It's over 20% higher than the last one sold for a couple of months ago. Mad. I'll be interested to see if they have any interest.

Oh, I forgot to update you guys on the costs of treatment. Yesterday was $200 to see the specialist of which I'll get $140 back from Medicare.

Total out of pocket expenses so far are $200. Once it gets to $1500 I can claim back against tax. If I have an operation the cost will be well north of that as the anethetist costs a packet.

I've been to many assessment centers and never - not even once - been offered a job from one. I just don't think I am the kind of person that people who recruit from assessment centers wants. I'm not anti-social, but I am an introvert and quiet and I don't shine in scenarios that are really designed for extroverts.

And, actually, I think the recruitment process is often pretty dismal really. *shrugs*

I solved it by going self employed:D But I've been looking for a proper job for the last few months, and am being drawn back to self employment just to avoid all the hassle :D Honestly, I think I've no longer got the attitude that makes for good employees...
    ?

In my entire life I have had exactly one interview of the come along and chat type. The rest of the time I was headhunted.....(kind of loses something in translation when you think I was a forklift driver at the time with an ability to stuff containers to the max:o).

I'm an extrovert, but only just probably, so I'd be rubbish as well tomterm. Been self-employed since '91 and like you, should I ever need to find work:eek:, I think I'd have the attitude problem - it's difficult if you are used to going your own way;).

Gen. Hope you don't mind me asking , when did the first appointment take place and have how many hands have you passed through so far?

First appointment with the GP would have been early Feb. I've seen the following people:

    1. GP
    2. Ultrasound nurse (2 vists)
    2. Ultrasound doctor/biopsy performer (2 visits)
    3. Specialist

I have been referred to a different biopsist so that will be a different pair there.

The specialist will remain the same all the way through unless a diagnosis change requires a different specialist or for some reason I decide I'd rather have a different one, for example this one might quote me for an operation and the price could be out of my league so I might chose a cheaper option. Or I might need something urgent doing and my specialist is away.

I could have gotten to the current point a fair bit quicker if I had chosen to do so. As I believed this was a cyst, I have kept appointments to Saturdays. I reckon I could have done this in 2 weeks if I'd wanted. Those diagnosis labs are pretty quiet in the week so I could have done the ultrasound and biopsy in 2 days rather than 2 weeks if I wanted.

It's the good thing about the co-payment system (Government pays some, I pay some). The queues are shorter. I don't know what I'd do if I had no money in this system. I think if you're on the dole or an OAP who is claiming means tested pensions then I would pay a lot less or perhaps nothing. Maybe I'd have had to rely on charity or just get treated as I saved the money up. No idea how that works TBH. I think everyone has to pay something for pretty much all treatment except for in the GP's office.

The current LNP Government (Tories let's say) are talking about introducing mandatory payments to see a GP, perhaps $5-10. Medicare always said that they'd pay the first $x ($37.50 I think?) of any GP bill no matter how big. As a result, in many neighbourhoods there's a GP charging $37.50 a visit and they simply rush you through as quickly as possible. It's rather like the British model as a patient. You can chose to see someone charging perhaps $70 a time, as I did for a while, and you pay the 'gap' of $32.50.

If you see a $70 GP you'll get a lot more time and at most visits time will be spent discussing primary health matters as well as the matter at hand. Perhaps you'll be nagged about your drinking or there'll be a discussion about whether your health insurance will subsidise a gym to get your BP down a bit.

I'm happy to discuss this stuff BTW. I think in Australia we have a healthcare model that works very well. It creates good health outcomes, it's cheap and it's nice to use as a patient.

I'm really interested by it, having NHS mother and having come from a country that is now with this health system.

In Georgia, the initial consultation is free, but you have to pay for anything further unless you're under 5, over 60 (I think now 65) or are on a low household income (low income in Georgia is classed at around 400 lari/month, or the amount you start to become full taxpayer as employee (below this, you subtract 1800 lari, which above 4800 reduces by 50%. Tax is flat 20%)
