  • I have a funny feeling the quiz is designed to make it difficult to be otherwise (-:

I was worried OH might fall asleep in the bath and drown, so I've dragged him out and put him to bed. He said he was fine, but I think he just couldn't be ar4ed to get out of it before it froze over.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

I tried it with my best Daily Mail-friendly answers. It took me to different questions (one was are you Michael Gove?), and eventually said you are 'Ignored' by the Daily Mail. I guess that is as positive as it gets!

Hope neverdespairboy is ok - tell him not to overstretch himself. He needs to be fighting fit to keep an eye on you!

Ah, the Daily Mail Oncology Ontology Project!

This quiz will have almost no winners and will probably self-destruct if taken by an unemployed gay disabled immigrant.

Have been browsing the Crocus website.

Hmmmm... lets hope my north facing garden is batting above it's weight!

Although apparently it suits olive trees. And a pretty little olive tree might have made its way into my Aldi trolley yesterday :o

Y only one part of your garden will be truely 'blighted' by shade. And there are things that cope. My rose and pear garden is north facing. But one side gets sun almost all day in summer, One side gets sun first thin in the morning, then some of it gets sun again in the afternoon, So half that wall is true 'shade only'.

There are even roses that cope with north walls.

A fabulous website for plant hunting for decorate plants is a site called plants for shade, I haven't bought from there myself but know A LOT of people who have and know people who know the owners. I have only heard good things about it, and the website is really useful, I use it for my shadey bits inspiration. :)

Good! I am terrible with houseplants. Much better with cut flowers :)

What likes it here = brambles by the looks of it! Also have 2 large Buddleja. Sadly directly North-facing, but the garden is a decent size so still catches the sun as not completely overlooked.

I now have a fair collection of veg seeds which I will do my best to nurture. The [STRIKE]Lidl [/STRIKE] edit: Aldi (easy mistake!) specials this week are gardening things, so I have splashed out on some bits and bobs to motivate me :o

I was given 2 bits of great advice by a farmer:

    1. The seeds ain't gonna grow in the packet
    2. There are billions of years of evolution telling plants to grow. You're much more likely to get something than nothing.

Looking at that picture, you've got some great soil there. It you get the weeds out and dig in some rotted horse poo (go to a stables and you should be able to get it for somewhere between cheaply and free) you should have a great growing medium.

To reduce the effort of weeding and watering, use mulch. I've recently started using it and it's great.

    :)

I'm prepared to give things a go even if it may not be optimal anyway!

I think most of the garden gets sun in the summer. I remember on one of my numerous visits here before it was mine (I think I had 5 or 6 visits in total - a couple of the agency staff live within 10 mins walk of here, and I that was the most hassle I gave them - none of the hold ups/ inconsistencies came from me!) that the EA sat pretty much behind the bin in the pic above (did I mention I also have about 8 outdoor chairs?) one sunny evening and was just about in the sun if I remember correctly.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I was figuring - it can't be that bad, the weeds seem pretty flipping happy there. To a very non-expert eye, the soil looks lovely to me. Not too clay and not sandy.

As in previous post, I'll plant what I would like to grow there and if it doesn't work I'll think again next year!
