Oh hell, I forgot where the smart casual thing started.
If I was presenting and it was smart casual then I'd be in a dark or black suit with a white shirt and no tie. If you're presenting it's great to be the smartest dressed person in the room and the dress code allows it. It goes back to michaels's thread about behavioural economics. If you can be seen as the leader and you lead by presenting then the presentation will be viewed as better by participants.
If you're going to be introduced then make sure the introducer slips in something positive about what qualifies you to be on stage. 20 years of experience in talking rubbish on websites or Masters Degree in bishop strangling or something. It doesn't really matter but it really helps if the introduction builds you up.
And don't forget to hand out 2 free mints to everyone at the end of your pitchI think....0 -
Sorry dashing today, calling by to wish Gen all the best for the op.

This suit with no tie thing I think is risky. Both because it can look LESS smart than smart casual, and be a use it can I think, look less confident.
That's a great tip about introduction.0 -
He's also, IMHO, the only serious Australian politician to take Aboriginal affairs really seriously. Kevin Rudd did The Apology but that was only a small step in the right direction. Abbott is putting real money into Aboriginal communities and giving it to the community to spend rather than it being the White Man's largesse.
That's good to hear Gen. I moved to Aus as part of the White Australia movement. Bearing in mind that the early other movers, such as Italians, Greeks and Lebanese were viewed as "darkies" when I lived there, I was really pleased when I went back to see how integration had changed that. I could see it in my own family... cousins born there and were real Aussies had intermarried with people with roots in other places. I was also amazed how much Australia had grown closer to Asia. But the Aboriginal issue seemed unaddressed. It is right that this is being challenged, better late than never. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? DW generally tries to persaud me to wear a newer pair of jeans without holes in the knees when we go out, that is the closest to smart I do, if my trainers have got so old they need replacing so I am wearing a new pair they look slightly better than the old pairs. Again I might wear one of my newer tshirts a hoodie/wool sweater if it is cold.
I find the only way with house buying is to basically shut the brain down when thinking about the amounts of money involved as the scale means it is just not possible to compare amounts of that size with any other expenditure. A bit like 1 trillion of National debt and how that relates to paying 50p duty on a bottle of wine....
I dress like a scruff pretty much all the time tbh. However, I generally feel comfortable, & that's the main thing.
I wear trousers, shirt & tie for work. I pretty much live in tshirts outside of work.
I've mentioned before that I have too many clothes, so am wearing stuff out & not buying any (work clothes excepted). Over the next 12 months or so, I'll need to replace some of the trousers, as they're getting worn. A couple of jumpers are on their way out too, so that's good. Hopefully I'll get to finish some really scruffy things off lugging boxes around for a few weeks!:)I find the only way with house buying is to basically shut the brain down when thinking about the amounts of money involved as the scale means it is just not possible to compare amounts of that size with any other expenditure. I've found myself quite ok with not thinking about the amounts of money, providing I know I can afford stuff after moving (which seems to be fine, I've done 2 financial statements). Part of that might be because I review my savings every 3 months, so they've become numbers on a piece of paper, not cash.
I'm also comfortable knowing that essentially this is what I've been saving for. Plus, I'm basically moving my savings into a different "investment", all be it one I'll be living in. It seems that a few others (trusted close friends, certain family members) are the ones who keep asking me if I'm worried about "losing"/spending that amount of money.
One friend in particular winces each time I talk about the 3 savings bonds that'll mature that will be the deposit. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Fwiw, this morning I am wearing fleece pj bottoms and a long sleeves to with a pair of dh's sport socks.
Ideal for washing after yard work and comfortable for house work.
I am contemplating walking back over to the yard and getting a broom and shovel to do my very short front path. I'd rather do it tomorrow, so I'll check weather and if its going to be dry tomorrow I'll do it then instead.0 -
Another vote of good luck for you tomorrow Gen! All the best fella. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

That's a great tip about introduction.
I think it depends. If you have a properly nice suit, not M&S or something, then I think it can work very well. Especially in England where smart casual is chinos, blue shirt, brown shoes and black socks.
You stand out from the crowd whilst dressing as a leader and remaining part of the in group.
The introduction thing is very powerful. Amazingly so. Infomercials use these sorts of techniques. I was watching 'Chef Tony' in his chef uniform try to sell me saucepans on TV at the weekend. It was brilliant. He's a chef, he's in a uniform. It's the classic stuff that Behavioural Economics tells us will sell stuff.0 -

Yes. Big love to you, Generali, not so much to the part that is surplus to requirements.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Cheers LJ! TBH I've very mixed feelings. I think I know what the outcome will be: removal by some unpleasant and scarring surgery but then it's gone. I've been in a shocking mood the past 2 days. I was very grumpy with someone from The Vampire Squid Sucking at the Face of Humanity today and yesterday. They didn't deserve it although to be fair their boss did.
Promotion for your lot at the end of the season is close to a gimme I reckon. Ours is over unless we win the Europa Cuppette.0
