Thanks - I'll try and find out exactly what a laurel wreath actually looks like.
I tried pointing out that, with fair hair and pale skin, he's probably more Barbarian look-alike than Roman. Which is, apparently, irrelevant....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Bay leaf I think NDG.. Two strightish bay pieces wired and linked at the back but not at the front......

Hmm - I wonder how many of us when thinking what a Caesar costume might look like are influenced by the Carry On Film?!I think....0 -

Not sure if he's right, but that's not exactly a first cousin, if he is.
Edited to add - he's decided he wants to be Julius Caesar for World Book Day. That means that this year we have some warning (last year, he was Harold Godwinson in a hell of a hurry) but I'm not quite sure how to come up with Julius Caesar costume, even with warning!
Bed sheet, raid someone's laurel bush, gold spray and sandals? I'd never considered real life people for world book day. We purchased a purple wig last week for Violet Beauregarde in anticipation of me not being much use for the next couple of weeks. School haven't mentioned WBD yet.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My first instinct was informed by National Lampoon's Animal House, but I looked up pictures of Julius Caesar. I can't see how his toga was fastened at the waist, if at all, but I would guess it wouldn't be a modern leather belt. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? On the contrary, I'm sure it would. I have it good authority that Viking girls wore their mum's dress from All Saints, Ugg boots and a wide leather belts from Oasis.
Don't quote.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Let's hope no-one's dressing up as a Carry-On-Cleo, then!Doozergirl wrote: »Bed sheet, raid someone's laurel bush, gold spray and sandals? I'd never considered real life people for world book day. I'm afraid Isaac will only consider non-fiction characters, and argues passionately that they are also in books, after all.
I do hope you feel better soon, sounds absolutely horrible <hugs>
Violet Beauregarde - the name Violet makes me think of Violet Elizabeth Bott from Just William, who says she will "thream and thream and thream until I'm thick!" if she doesn't get her own way....lostinrates wrote: »Bay leaf I think NDG.. Thanks LIR! Wire work I can do, easily. Phew!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

!
It's a refreshing change from kids who dress as characters from films and tv and argue that they are also in books. Admittedly, I sent DS as The Doctor one year, but he looked awesome!
I knew an Elizabeth Bott at school! :-/Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I thought, If I could contemplate doing it you would ace it :rotfl:0 -
Wire work is common in making jewellery, so that's where I both learned to do it, and acquired the tools. Like DIY pliers, but tiny!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
