Excellent spot, Spirit! Does that mean that lir types 'honk' a lot as it has come up with predictive text? :)

I don't think so. For example, Is also changes 'something' to 'so etching' for a miss type I must make but not sure what. Etching is not part of my regular vocab apart from that its replaced so often it now is!

    MIT for might too,

Urgh.......no, no, no.....we get this stuff some times. DH just cannot say no to free stuff :(. ATM we have a couple of huge bag fulls of stuff from a 'branded beverage' that I cannot get any more friends or family to take any off. Seriously , if I offer anyone else a fridge magnet or t shirt I think I might get tied up in t shirts, weighed down with magnets and chucked to the bottom of the cake.......

    I mean....a paper napkin holder??????

I sleep/ lounge around the house (i.e. spend most of my time) in free t-shirts. I am currently wearing a meningitis research foundation one we were given when rag raiding a 'few' years ago.

The meeting where promotional tat came up was surreal. I was waiting for everyone to say they were joking. I kind of still am...

I might try and use 'honk' more often. I'd forgotten what a nice word it was :)

    Honk.

The best one we have is a beach bag that is also a towel. It sort of folds on to itself. Its dreadful, but DH loves it.

Things he's had include flip flops , paper drums, leather wallets.

As trainees they were asked to come up with ideas for this stuff for grad recruitment thingies. DH found this a really interesting thing not just among his peers but also to see how the partners reacted to the different ideas.
When they asked DH what would have made him want to work there he pointed out they are HEAVILY oversubscribed because of what they paid (at that time there was a particular kudos in the salary there) and that getting people, to apply wasn't the problem.

Getting people to realise they were applying to somewhere they were the right fit for was harder, He'd give them the courtesy of conversation at the fairs and the bumf they give out a warm smile.

    It didn't go down well.

The sad truth is, dh's employers used to have a 100 percent retention rate and no longer do. I don't think that speaks well for recruitment and/or the state there. Flip flops in a jolly shade of the rainbow or a pen you got four or five years before don't really make that much of a difference.

Exactly. A branded pen that will get left in a hotel room or something on a quirky USB drive that will never get looked at aren't as important as the actual message that is supposedly being conveyed.

But apparently I was alone in those feelings. If anyone watched Twenty Twelve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty_Twelve) I felt like I'd strayed into an episode of that.

Got an assessment centre for a graduate job next week :D

It's the final stage. Six people, two jobs. I like my odds!

I've booked my train, and booked a nice little pub/hotel for the night before, and I'm actually really looking forward to it.

Got a good feeling about this one :)

Some years ago OH was attending an international committee meeting where a decision was to be made on whether a small bit of cloth was a flag or a pennant. He was warned beforehand that the meeting could end in tears. They were not joking.

I was head hunted for a role at HM Treasury and went for an interview. It took place at the treasury in a very high ceilinged small room. The interview went very well . At the end they asked me if I had any questions for them. I asked "what is the work culture like?" to which they responded "monastic and dedicated to the task". I laughed, then realised they were not joking. I 'corpsed'. Laughed uncontrollably and continued to laugh long after it was seemly to do so.

When I left the building I was still laughing and had to prop myself up against the wall.

    Unsurprisingly, no offer.

I did the posh test and am 37%.

Do you take your shoes off? The question could well be how Oriental are you?

Can you ride a horse? How 'John Wayne' are you.

Do you eat your main evening meal at the dinner table? Are you civilised or some sort of bloody zoo exhibit?

    Ah, now I see...

I agree that it is completely daft. One question is whether you read tabloid newspapers. Are there any broadsheets left?

My son's girlfriend is of Caribbean/Chinese extraction and rejoices in the name of Lou-Hing, so that's a tick for me for double-barrelled. :)

By the way, I agree that Monroe is a very nice first name. Rather unusual.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Did they give you a pen? Flip flops? ;)

    Good luck!
