It was intended for 3rd world countries and extreme events like hurricane disaster areas etc.

Great for dealing with biological nasties in the water. Not so effective against heavy metal contamination etc, but that's a much less common problem, and of course definitely wouldn't apply to rainwater harvesting.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Very nice man on Facebook who answered my plea re the wheelchair, has done what others have said was impossible (or very expensive) and fixed my wheelchair!
I finally got it back on Saturday afternoon and we wasted no time and was straight up town doing the whole length of it....bliss!
And the price for fixing? £25!0 -

I love stuff like that, brilliant. I think in my cousin's case the biggest issue is water for uses other than drinking and in food preparation. As my uncle said when I stayed with him "you shower for how long?!" (it was 10 minutes). It is distinctly un-Australian to be seen as wasting water.
My cousin and her husband have a massive tank in their garden. It's a funny place. It is only about a 2 minute drive from the start of the town. Over here it would be inconceivable to be that close to a town and yet have no services. There it is completely the norm. It is lovely, but not where I would like to live as it is too close to native bush for my liking. In my uncle's case, he actually lives in a town, but because it is a small town in the middle of nowhere, it is still a different level of self sufficiency.
Where I lived in Australia and where the rest of my family live now (Melbourne) is different again as it is a big city with many more amenities. Even there though, the standard of housing can be quite basic compared to here - as Gen says, the houses aren't over engineered to last 100s of years. It's also quite acceptable to have a tin roof. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

We're supposed to envy the rich to keep the economy moving but I'd rather envy the valuable like that bloke you found. People like that are worth their weight in gold, IMHO.:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Quality!:cool:I teach a "Persian" girl. Her family have been living in this country since the revolution.
Interesting discussion re dinosaurs (I get the feeling if I came to a NP meeting, I'd spend most of the time chatting with Isaac now...) I loved them as a kid.
T-Rex is now becoming commonly thought of as a scavenger, as it was never as mobile as we thought, & could only move in little bursts.
Brontosaurus was 2 seperate skeletons put together incorrectly.
I still have loads of dinosaur books on my bookshelf, & bought a couple about fossil hunters in the last 2 years. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

We went to this http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/mottisfont/things-to-see-and-do/events/exhibitions/, this morning. the Lichfield portraits were wonderful.
Celebs of their day I know, but they all just looked so glamorous, a bit devil-may-care and as if they really knew how to live. Steve Redgrave looked so handsome, Roger Moore I expected, but Steve Redgrave.
Interesting Spirit.
Thanks for posting. I buy my folks NT membership each year (they love it), & this is travellable for them, so I'm going to suggest they go!It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I feel very grumbly I haven't been to see the roses at montisfont yet. They are meant to be incredible.0 -
Having it back has made a huge difference already, as I said, we did the whole town centre on Saturday, something we haven't done for nearly 8 weeks and tomorrow, we are off out to Norwich for the day, something that would have been impossible without the wheelchair.
The 'man who could' saw it as a challenge, he was absolutely determined he was going to get it done, no matter how long it took or what he had to do...his name is quite famous on our little selling group on Facebook as he does all manner of things and to a high standard too and never charges huge amounts. He promised me that if he could do it, then he would have it back to me for half term and by god did he deliver.
Talking about delivering, he even did that...he collected and then returned the chair to me, so no messing about trying to get to his to drop it off and pick it up either. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
