It's funny how relatives giggle then back away slowly when they see me with it:D

( I haven't actually tried it yet, but my hunch is that this isn't going to work well for bramble, but it might make for much more entertaining hedge cutting for the neigbours they-who-already-think-we-are-mad)

My brother has had serious mental health issues. At times being sectioned. Some years ago when he was staying with us and was chopping logs he remarked that not many people would have trusted him with an axe.

Machetes are brilliant Tomterm. Mine iS a general hacking back tool, and used for all kinds of other purposes.

It looks allright. Not the best quality machete in the world, but another tool in the armory.

Not really the best day to try it out... too wet underfoot. Don't want to slip while using it.

It's been a hard winter for hacking and slashing... you just can't do it in a mudbath because you don't want to hack and slash yourself. Basically, only done a few days so far in February. Did no days in January, which is the first time for years...

I don't think that the relatives think I'd hurt someone with the machete on purpose, but they're not so sure about the clumsy option.

Meh, there are people I know who are 'sane' I'd not trust with an axe. :).
  • I wouldn't trust myself with an axe, or machete. Not because I have homicidal tendencies, but more because I'd risk chopping off my own foot, or someone else's if they ventured too close.

Very few axe murders happen ever year in Britain. They're just not convenient. Stanley knifes, carpet fitting knifes, and anything you find in the kitchen draw.

Axe's are very dangerous tools. Dangerous to yourself, that is.

Machete's if used properly, like all single bladed knives, are actually very safe tools. The rule is to always think where the blade is going to go next. Also, reaping hooks when cutting undergrowth and carrying it in a sheeth.

I'd say with most blade tools the most dangerous time is when you are sharpening them... the second most dangerous time when you are moving them.

Double blade tools are very dangerous and I don't use them.

I told Mr Spirit about th quiz, but not about my score.

If he scores differently it will be proof that he must be having a relationship with someone else as well.
  • I'd allow a slight margin of error either way, Spirit, before concluding that Mr. Spirit's secretary is to blame.
