Are they making you pay
Nope. However, anyone who knows me, knows there is a massive risk in my being responsible for the bride being on time. I'm always late (Lydia, make a note for any NP meet!).
At my brothers wedding, everyone told me the wedding was at half past. I proudly rolled up at quarter past, being all smug cos everyone assumed I'd be late, to be told that the wedding wasn't for another 45 minutes.

All the bugg4hs told me to be there half an hour early!

Considering that it is customary for the bride to be late, it sounds like you are the best man for the job!

I was over half an hour late. Didn't even look at the clock but time was flying. It was only when our photographer packed us girls out the door that I went, or I'd have been there even longer.

Had a nice sunny afternoon after the morning frost. No rain today! :) Just been sitting on the porch for a quiet cig and listen to the evening birdsong. Pretty sky.

It wasn't particularly cold then, though cooling off fast. Think we might have frost again tonight. But the frost still hasn't killed off the nasturtiums in the front garden, and we still had one flowering last week. We also have a purple podded pea in flower in a pot in the front too!!!

I don't understand this blame thing over the weather.

I mean, on its very nature its an act of god. The emphasis on the levels is understandable but frankly, as a rural person with immense empathy with them, still a little bemusing to me. It concerns me that now people will compare the treatment of Somerset with the treatment of the areas in the se where there is very little comparison in the numbers of people impacted. NOT how much the individuals are impacted, not in the least.

This is along the lines of my thoughts. And also that even if the rivers had been dredged to oblivion (almost wrote to infinity and beyond :o), I'm guessing that they would still have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of rain that has fallen. Its easier when there is someone to blame though (esp when there are obvious things that could have been done, and the govt/ EA are getting involved in the blame game stuff too).

Its a bit like investment in snow ploughs etc - there isn't the cash to do everything, until the cost:benefit swings the other way it's difficult to justify it over spending on something else (not saying that money couldn't be spent more wisely/efficiently).

One of the blokes they interviewed on the BBC was a youngish chap. He was bailing out his front garden using just a bucket. It was about 1' deep. Scoop a bucket of water, walk over the road, lob it through a fence into the stream.

He was nearly in tears, then the reporter said: it's his first home, that he bought only a week ago.

I'd say complainer should prove but if company could show what they did receive and had nice organised accounts/books and willingness to resolve problem it would probably go a long way to reflect well on the, should the problem escalate. I would be prepared to show mine without prejudice and with the assurance that only an approved redacted version was shown to the complainant.

    +1. Very eloquently put :T

I was having this discussion over the weekend with someone. They were also using the example of snow at airports and comparing us to the US or Nordic countries - who of course have far more snow and therefore it's far more proportionate to spend money on many, expensive, machines which they know will be needed several times each year.

    Question for the NP.

If, in the case that a customer raised an official complaint with a trade body along the lines that they accidentally overpaid (except they hadn't) who do you think should prove what?

The company can't show something that they didn't receive can they?

I would expect the quote, invoice, and evidence of payment to be able to be provided by each party. The company will have been paid a certain amount and should be able to evidence that.

Unless the situation is that the customer says they have paid in more than one instalment: all but the final instalment totalling the original invoice amount, and then a final instalment for the 'extra' amount. Even so, there would have to be paperwork somewhere justifying a demand for the increased payment.
