Can anyone remind me of who it is who posts here and has their MFW badge? We've been over paying massively since rates went down and have taken our mortgage down from 21 years outstanding 7 years ago to five outstanding now (at current rate of repayment). Wanted to know if it was worth joining the board and if so, when? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I post there sometimes but haven't 'joined' as my finances are less traditional/linear than the mfw model. Depending how much the 'project' has gone up with the housing market I may be quite close to being technically mf and if the planning is ever sorted I will definitely be but my actual mortgage is the largest it ever has been, IO, but I see it more as a credit line than as something to be chipped away at.
Edit: for tax benefits reasons I am also diverting money into my pension rather than the mortgage at the moment, it is all 'saving' but sometimes just aiming for mf isn't the only answer.I think....0 -
It's all kinda hit me today. TBH I'm pretty scared.
I'm not ready to die just yet.
Hugs and best thoughts and prayers, Gen. Not sure what else to say.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I lurk there sometimes in a sort of "if I had a normal mortgage I would join" sort of way. They have challenges where you say how much you're hoping to pay off and how quickly and then see if you can stick to it, and lots of them have diaries - a few just post factual information about how much they've overpaid, and others witter on about general stuff in the way we do on the NPT. Most of them have signatures detailing the stats of how big their mortgages are and how much they've paid off so far, etc. I believe you get the MFW badge for posting on the sticky "roll of honour" post.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? DH Is doing that too. I'm not at the moment as our LGPS is about to change and I want to see what the impact is. Although we don't think of ourselves as such, in reality we are middle aged, and paying off the house long before retirement while saving enough for a comfortable retirement is what we are balancing.
We aren't big spenders, neither of us smoke or drink, our biggest vice is going on holidays, something we want to be able to do in retirement too. It's just getting the balance right. We've also been looking at buying a place in Spain for when going to our timeshare in the states gets too much. We would not be looking for a timeshare then though, just a small flat, somewhere between the Costa Brava and Barcelona. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I'm trying to make sure I get the right kind of balance...
I'm now paying into my pension the maximum that gets matched by my employer (years studying mean I have quite a lot of catching up to do pension-wise).
I have set my own 'challenge' for the year - a target to achieve through a combination of reducing my mortgage balance and saving. I'm also not aiming to make the maximum permitted overpayment on the mortgage - I've rounded up the monthly payment to the nearest £100, and am paying in any 'bonus' money (cashback, tax refund, variable pay when that comes through). Anything else goes into savings. Some of the savings will also need to be spent on the house. It's taking a concerted effort not to just focus on overpaying the mortgage.
Hopefully I'm not still going to be paying a mortgage in 29.5 years time :eek:0 -

There was a pic of an airborne person on the DM website yesterday :eek:0 -
One or two of my naughtier chickens, a little girl called Cushion and a little girl called Sophia, who are both rather good fliers anyway, seem to be enjoying it. They are some what out of control though.
Cats have mainly stayed in, apart fom when pink whistley took her role as gaffer of the work crew seriously. Never a slacker, the Whistley.0
