I want to be able to sit outside in the summer sipping G+T/ wine/ Pimms/ whatever else.
I would like to grow some veg (courgettes are top of the list).
I might get a paddling pool.
That is about as far as I have got!
I have a friend who has some garden design experience. On previous visits she has told me I have some nice plants and she has told me that she is going to come round one weekend and tell me what I have, how to look after them and help me to tame it a bit. I am going to take notes and provide food and wine.
Courgettes are one of the easiest thing to grow. Careful you don't have too many! I did.
My tip, plant veg that you like to eat. Pick a couple of things that are relatively easy yet productive in the first year (courgettes & beans are good examples), & prepare yourself for stuff tasting way better than shops.

I have spent the most of today hearing about equations. Up until about 10 years ago, the type of equations that were being discussed I wouldn't have batted an eyelid at. Now I haven't got a clue.
I've signed up to the irrationality course viva posted a link to (thanks viva - I'll see you in the lectures GBD!), and noticed there was another one for mathematical modelling of biological systems which looked like it would be quite useful too. I'm quite looking forward to 'going to' some lectures againvivatifosi wrote: »I'm doing that one too Nikks. And possibly jelly man if he decides to sign up...
I did sign up when I saw your post. Just forgetful, so forgot to mention/thank you!I'm lead to believe it is when people who are in a relationship celebrate the fact that they are in a relationship by buying flowers, chocolates, cards, new outfits, meals out, city breaks, tickets to concerts, perfume and numerous other things if my email inbox is anything to go by.
Having said that, this year I'm sending a record number of Valentines cards....
The usual one to my mum (a nice but silly one with a bunny on it), and three to close friends who are single and going through variously rough patches. I couldn't find any appropriate actual Valentines cards for them (they aren't 'The One' or 'My Girlfriend' and almost all the rest were just nause-inducing), so I found some nice blank cards with which to send my love.
There is still time for me to purchase more, if anyone else requires one
Do I answer this...?:whistle:It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
It's all kinda hit me today. TBH I'm pretty scared.
I'm not ready to die just yet.
Not knowing is the worst.
When you don't know, your mind will generally come up with the most extreme outcomes as being the most likely.
In addition, your brain is going at a million miles a second, trying to make sense of everything.
I posted recently about Steve Evans & his commentary on his experience. I've also posted about the time I spent as a carer for someone who found they did have a tumour when they had a camera down their windpipe. I remember the time well. Lots of peaks & troughs. That was 8 years ago. But they're still here - we spoke this morning, & all is well. They now have 4 grandchildren, & live life to the full!

My friends daughter has asked me to give her away at her wedding next year.
came as a bit of a shock that one...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Well, I definitely wasn't planning on trying to grow vegetables that I don't like eating (there aren't many though anyway). I might not display it very often, but I do have some common sense!
If I could grow a good crop of courgettes, I'd save a small fortune. I'd even clear out some space in the freezer for them if needed0 -

A beautiful day, if a little cold, used the billhook to chop down a fair amount of bramble. Caused lots of little cuts to my wrist when bit of bramble got lodged inside gauntlet gloves. Will have to avoid doctors for a while or they'll think they have a self-harmer patient.
Did I mention I hate bramble? If I could grow a good crop of courgettes, I'd save a small fortune. I'd even clear out some space in the freezer for them if needed
Courgettes are very easy, my secret recommendation is to buy in the plant already mostly grown from the garden centre. The extra few weeks makes a lot of extra crop. ALSO, lots of muck. They are very hungry.
For years my mother had a couple of large pots of runner beans by our back door... but it does take a deal of watering.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Ouch!
Someone had very helpfully chopped up a load of bramble before I moved in here. Slightly less helpfully they had left a big heap of it in the garden.
A few weeks after I had moved in I felt I really should do something about it (i.e. put it in the garden waste bin). I very quickly realised that even being 'careful', it wasn't a great idea to do so without gloves (what did I say about common sense?). I also learnt that tesco value jogging bottoms offer little protection from bramble thorns.
At least the recent windy weather has moved the bramble that was beginning to creep across the roof of my lean-to/ conservatory thingy.0 -

Brambles. The plant that gives double denim a reason to exist.
I hate clearing mine. They come under the fence every year from the house across the back from me. I can't see over, so heaven knows what their side looks like. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
