It doesn't sound pretentious to me at all. I have thought of doing the same, just need to decide where I want to live first.

Be warned, its very tempting to buy plants just because they are white.....:o. I have a plant I really don't like much that's there because it was discounted and white .....:o
Otherwise the trick is to forget the white, ironically, and think about the foliage. Its surprisingly difficult to get good harmony, though very easy to get beautiful white flowers!0 -
Unconventional colour choice?????
If I had a barn, I'd paint it white. Or black, maybe. I like navy Blue, but is that a barn sort of colour?
Edit: Is this the inside or the outside?
Navy blue barn would be quite impressive I think. Maybe a bit depressing in autumn, winter, early spring?
Usually barns , if they are pInted, have a dark band of black around the bottom to minimise mud splash back, Nd are white. (In us barn red is of course popular). Forest green, metal grey or just the colour of breeze block is popular. Dutch barns (ones with round tops) are often painted black as are other metal barns.
We're painting the outsides ATM. Been doing it most of last summer too:rotfl:.
When we come to the insides I'm thinking I might paint them yellow from above the dark band we'll paint.
Its warmer than white in winter (cold barns are depressing) and happier and available off the shelf in wickes in the custard colour we used on the outside of the utility that's a passable match to the outside of the house. We probably have to repaint the back of the house this year too. I really don't want to though. I love the patchy paint, but I am aware paint is a slightly protective measure here over a crazed pattern on the render, so we should just get on with it.
Rp wants us to put those things up that stop birds pooping on the paint work, but I actually like the bird poop down the walls. I know I'll be really sad when its painted.
Edit...if I liked navy a lot I'd do the dark band at the bottom of my barns deeper than normal and do that in navy then a sky blue band, or grey, and white above. That would look quite chic, like sailor suit barns.. Or navy and cream, very very chic. Or........

Just got back from Venice. many thanks to all regular posters and lurkers for your advice.
We had a great time.
We also got to see what Thames Ditton / Shepperton etc.might look like in 20 years time. If they had more interesting buildings.
I'll read back and try to catch up.:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

You've by now got a reputation for "that woman ... that house ... you know ... the one .... half naked..... pays them. ..... mmmm"
Nobody could ever think LIR had to pay men to get naked, more that she had to have several sticks to beat them off!lostinrates wrote: »Oh wow, do the whit ones smell as sweet?
I want some blubells in the future in the orchard when we have nice shade for them....be years and years.
Tbh, I've been considering seeing what some labour might cost to do things like clear the cake area. I really want to make head way this year.
I adore bluebells. They are one of the most gorgeous of flowers and experiences, I think.
My parents have a carpet of them in the coppiced woods near the river, and they are a feast for all the senses.
Your snowdrops are gorgeous, as well - I love them too, and daffodils.

Our whitebells weren't in shade. They were on the north side but still got early morning sun, some day sun and evening.0 -

I'd be looking for my big stick and some of these naked men NDG is promising me.0 -

Sounds wonderful! Was it just you and Mrs Zag, or a larger party?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
