I am quite new here too (and non too sure of my qualifications to be here, but was warmly welcomed) I find this thread a bit like the twilight zone at times. You read a post and the next post is totally unrelated, the next unrelated again, then a clutch of related ones, rinse and repeat. It is like the game we used to play as a kid where you would write something and fold over the paper and the next person would add another comment.

    I .

Like a cocktail party with good friends or busy big dinner party. Lots of mini conversations and some of us float between them., :o. Fwiw, its pretty much the same at NP meet ups, we talk en masse and in little mini conversations.

I am really missing FC and misskool though.

Yeah I like this thread too :) I don't post much, but now and again!

I'm in Greater Herts (Manchester nearest city), like mushrooms if they're nicely cooked (ie. not too much!), not Jewish but my mum is convinced we've got Jewish ancestry somewhere. She's a radiographer, and apparently looks Jewish; they have a fair amount of Jewish patients where she works, quite a lot of whom have just assumed she's Jewish.

I just knew you were going to say you had an Epson before I read the last part. They are well known for "drying out" especially if you don't use it regularly.

I switched to a Canon MX870 SOHO which was a great multifunction printer. It worked great and lasted years.

Last year it stopped working so I got a Canon MX925 which looked like the equivalent, updated, but was quite a bit cheaper.

I'm not as happy with the MX925. It's a bit noisier, slower to start and I had a problem with the fax that it would cut off my landline calls, so I disconnected the fax as I never use it now anyway.

The MX925 is wireless and good at duplex printing, but if I had to get a new printer I'd have to think twice about getting the MX925 again.

I use the Epson regularly and it still gets blocked heads. Someone recommended Kodak as a brand that has cheap ink?

Just wondering if we really need colour? Any NP have views?

Fax is very important. Wireless would be useful but not essential as we are used to walking to the machine with our laptops and connecting!

Option B would be to keep the epson for fax/ scanning and buy a second printer for printing. Somehow that sounds silly.

My laptop is on its last legs so I have just bought a new one. I have signed up to the free 1 month trial of Office 365. I shall either have to carry on with it or buy Office, since the copy of Office 2007 that I inherited from LNE has now been installed on as many computers as it's allowed to be. I'll need it on my own machine, DS's (currently has 2007 but he uses 2010 at school) and DD's (currently hasn't got Office at all but will need it within the next year or two).

Can't you get it from... http://www.software4students.co.uk/

    Or through your work.

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

The subscription to office 365 is no cheaper to the offer I've already seen. The "buy it once and don't have to subscribe" version doesn't include outlook - versions of office for students haven't included outlook since office 2003. I've been happy to stick with outlook 2003 up to now, but I think I need something more up to date now.

Work provide me with a laptop to use for work, and put software on it for me. They don't help me to get cheap software to use at home, I'm afraid.

It will have, but it can take three days and PN was already on the deadline so only faster payments could get it there on time (i.e. before she had to pay interest and penalties)
This is the bit they don't tell you. TV adverts saying "don't forget the deadline".... (not that I recall seeing any this year) ... but they don't say "don't forget the deadline - oh and we've removed the ability to pay right at the end, so leave extra time for your payment to get there because that'll come as a complete surprise otherwise"
