"We can collect it any time this weekend that suits you as we live in East Finchley and we have a small van so transport is not a problem. I am a very reliable Freecycler and always turn up at the time agreed as I know from experience how annoying it can be. "
Translation:
"We are always on the lookout for resale opportunities and have a van ready to snare every opportunity. We also know the right thing to say to win the freebie."
No mention of needy family/ replacement for their own item/ no promise not to resell.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. They also said "Is there any chance that the washing machine is still available? I would love to have it as we are currently having to go to the launderette on a weekly basis (our broke last month) "
Of course, that may be untrue. Who knows?
We took the stacking kit off the old machine, and I looked inside. Considering it was over 15 years old and had done 20,000 hours of use, it looked remarkably good. I only replaced it because we could get around 20% off the machine we bought this month, plus 5 year guarantee included.
Michaels would be almost proud of me:
Co-op Electrical store were selling the machine at £15 below the usual price.
Plus special 6% discount for 3 days only.
Plus 6% Quidco.
Plus Co-op divi points, with a bit of luck.
Plus £75 back from Miele.
If it all goes right, the machine should end up costing us well under £600. I thought that was a better idea than waiting until the old one finally popped its clogs and then having to pay top dollar to get one in a hurry.
But no cigar from Michaels, I expect, because I didn't use a cash-back credit card.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

To add to previous advise re Avios, fly from Dublin/ Amsterdam/ Madrid and pay much less taxes. will be cheaper than flying from the UK, even allowing for the cost of flights to Dublin/ Amsterdam/ Madrid.
and pay for everything using an Amex avios card to earn as many Avios as possible to replace the ones you are spending.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Design tips.
We have upvc windows with leaded lights in bay window in the dining room. In front of them we have net curtains.
I would prefer to get rid of the net curtains. One option is the blinds that PN found that clip into the windows.
The same company also make roller blinds, but I'm not sure that the room wouldn't be dark if we kept the blinds shut every day.
I'm thinking of dress curtains or no curtains, as we never have a need to close them.
Also the bay window is 4 x 2, 4 vertical section each having a small non opening window at the top. I was thinking that the small top bits don't need blinds, or is that odd?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Happy Australia Day to you, Mrs Gen and the Generalissimos.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I'd always go with venetians, you can tilt them so people can't see in .... unless they've got their noses against the window - and/or you can still hang a voile behind that, which can't be seen from outside. IMHO venetians always give the best/cleanest look and privacy/security.0 -
Happy Australia Day everyone.
Had a lovely spot of lunch at a friend's place: BBQ'd lamb with salad and bread followed by a decent piece of chocolate cake. 5 hours of talking crap with said friend made things all the more enjoyable. His family emigrated to Aus from the Ukraine in the 1940s. They would have been one of a handful of Ukrainians at a time when Australia was only really interested in accepting migrants from the UK and Ireland.
His family were taken to Germany as, in his words, "they were one step up from the Jews so not actively killed, just worked to death". The Americans liberated them and as Displaced People they could decide where they went after the war. They had chosen America but Dad unilaterally made a decision to change that to Australia and didn't tell anyone until they were on the boat!
I'm just listening to the American Hustle soundtrack. The Arabic version of White Rabbit is fantastic. The language somehow adds to the urgency of the song. Feed your head:
