It's a real shame no np seem to need it.

None of your kids friends GDB? No one through community?

If not free cycle and hope for best.

There are facebook groups that would suit. "Clutter clearout north London" is a very active one.

I have never had to fly for business and have now booked, from necessity, two business class tickets (with BA). What in the world is the difference between that and economy?

Within Europe you will get bigger and more comfortable seats, more adjustable, better food and drink. More attentive flight crew. Theoretically your luggage should come off first. Better in flight entertainment system. Separate business class check in. a BA lounge at Gatwick, that will have free food and drink of generally a better quality that the pay-to-enter lounges. And you earn more avios from your flight.

I am using these tickets for a soon-to-be had excursion in the general Mediterranean area using our former national air carrier.

Food would be complimentary on economy, IIRC. What extras do you get for business I have to wonder? One of those nibbling fish foot spa things? I have two feet and so has the missus.

I can happily do without panda-and -platypus panninis for the duration.

Also how long before the flight departure do people turn up for check-in? Used to be two hours but is that still so, for close but not-inside the uK destinations?

Two hours if you want to enjoy the lounge, one hour plus otherwise. Not sure that your airport has the spa, Heathrow does.

lost the quote....avois flights to far away places...

One business class single flight to or from South Africa will set you back 50,000 avios. On an companion voucher deal that would give you 2 single flights. Are you tempted to fly business yourself and mrs michaels and leave the kiddies in economy, or are they too young?

Best use of avios would be to buy premium economy (world traveller plus) returns and try to use avios to upgrade the return flight to business. That would cost you 12500 avios for each upgraded single flight. There needs to be availability of the reward (avios) flight in business and that will be tricky if you want 5 upgrade tickets on the same flight. Book early and keep changing for reward flight availability is the trick.

I don't know about you silver, but I don't find WTP that great. It's a big price hike over economy for what it is, which is a form of economy. When I went to Aus a few years back, it was great, flew LHR to Bangkok WTP, Bangkok to Sydney club. They've changed the seats since then and I don't find them as comfortable or roomy. Last used WTP in Nov and wasn't keen at all. It's ok if you can get a window and aisle but the centre ones are horrid.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

    Happy Australia Day everyone.

Had a lovely spot of lunch at a friend's place: BBQ'd lamb with salad and bread followed by a decent piece of chocolate cake. 5 hours of talking crap with said friend made things all the more enjoyable. His family emigrated to Aus from the Ukraine in the 1940s. They would have been one of a handful of Ukrainians at a time when Australia was only really interested in accepting migrants from the UK and Ireland.

His family were taken to Germany as, in his words, "they were one step up from the Jews so not actively killed, just worked to death". The Americans liberated them and as Displaced People they could decide where they went after the war. They had chosen America but Dad unilaterally made a decision to change that to Australia and didn't tell anyone until they were on the boat!

I'm just listening to the American Hustle soundtrack. The Arabic version of White Rabbit is fantastic. The language somehow adds to the urgency of the song. Feed your head:

I think the best use of Avios is to pay WTP and upgrade using Avios to business. It means you can buy the cheapest WTP you can get. Thought it may suit michaels as he won't have enough Avios to buy reward seats outright.

Also michaels can put the kiddies in the middle seats.

I would agree that WTP in itself isn't much better than economy, with one exception - if you are particularly tall, the benefits of the extra leg room on a long flight is something worth having (and if you haven't got status, booking the extra leg room seats is difficult).

In the end, I took Michaels's advice and chose the people most likely to collect it! They ticked all the boxes on that score: "We can collect it any time this weekend that suits you as we live in East Finchley and we have a small van so transport is not a problem. I am a very reliable Freecycler and always turn up at the time agreed as I know from experience how annoying it can be. "
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I have an Italian daisy light sconce to go up next to the hooks, which I'm using for a candle, not as real lighting. Its quite near a fire alarm GBD.

So, you're not going to light the candle then?

Talking of painting, I like the green and the blue, but I am not keen on the orange stripe above and below the coat hooks. I love the chair with the red cushion!

Panic over, he emailed back and had mixed up two brothers!

His father was the brother who never married.....so, I have been able to fill in some of the blanks for him re my memories of his father ( I vaguely remember some whispered family talk about it when I was small) and I know this relative had a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a player....

So, will you be welcoming him into the family? Invite him for family occasions?
