You're not being dim at all, I should have explained before! :o OH and I have half an Allotment, which we tend to shorten to "lottie". So a lottie hat is a hat that is good to wear on the Allotment - needs to stay on in wind, shade face etc.

It's Rent Day on Saturday, when we have to go and pay our years rent (think it's £20 for half a lottie here, this will be our first payment day as we only got the lottie in May, no rent until Rent Day) and also potato day when we can buy potatoes from the local association. We're still eating the beans we grew last summer, and picked and cooked with onions and tomatoes in September (sadly not our own onions and tomatoes) and packed in 2 person meal sized boxes in freezer, which make a great base for a stew - we did a pork one last Saturday, and it was totally scrummy. :j It's nice to meet other folks there - we all have one thing in common - we all like to grow edible stuff! :) Though everyone grows some flowers too - need to attract the bees to pollinate the food crops after all! :)

We didn't get much off the lottie last year (other than weeds!), it was late when we started. I'm hoping we'll do better this year, though need to try get more netting together as the !!!!!! pigeons ate our kale that was doing really well till about 2 weeks ago. At least our onions are under netted tunnelly things...

Ooops, gone a long way off topic from hats! :rotfl: But out in the open it's good in summer to keep head, face, neck, shoulders well shaded as much as possible, as while you're weeding you tend to lose track of time. At least I do. :o :rotfl:

Mulch is your friend. It keeps the weeds down and reduces the need for watering in summer.

Don't Sikh temples feed 10s of millions every day? That's pretty good.
I think many of the "major" religions have some kind of charitable giving or helping the poor or similar as a key part of what you are supposed to do. I think (although I don't know much about it) that it's an important part of Sikhism, and it certainly is in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

I'm feeling much better, no idea why. I'll ride the wave of feeling ok until the wheels come off again I guess.

:j Enjoy it! And when the down days come, try to remember that there will be other up days coming soon, even if you're not able to predict them in advance or explain them when they happen. :)

There might be slight hope though, I put a plea up on our local Freecycle Facebook page (also our local selling Facebook page) and someone has offered to see if he can cobble something together as he has a full workship available. Got to send him pics of the damage first but if he can sort something out (I don't mind a mechanno (sp) appearance), then the problem is sorted!

Hoping for the best that that works out for you, Sue.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Thank you. Makes perfect sense now.

I am in awe of people who can manage an allotment. I can't even manage to keep up with the small garden attached to my house. (Well, I can at the moment because it's all been dug up to be levelled, so there's nothing there but mud, which doesn't require much managing, but I couldn't manage it when I had an actual garden there.)

First listed March 2013 for £300k
    Listed as sold July 2013
Sale must have fallen through as sold tag taken off in October
Reduced in price by 5k in November.
That's the way to make a sale.... knock £5k off every £300k once a year.
    :)

Nobody will buy it to live in it. That's only really suitable as a holiday rental/2nd home.... and as there are hundreds to buy, the maths probably doesn't stack up at all well.

This is also 2 beds, character ... and cheaper. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-42896942.html

My PB isn't showing me those previous dates.... it shows them for some... maybe I am not working in a bee... I should check.

When I go through on your link, I don't get the info so I search myself and the info is there.

The second one went on the market in August at £249k, went under offer October, fell through in December and priced reduced a few days ago.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I think the mormon church owns a chain of supermarkets and they supply food from their stock to needy parishioners.

America seems to have quite a range of charitable organisations. I gather that coupon-clipping is a big part of the US way of life Newspapers and magazines have money-off coupons which everybody takes on their shopping expeditions.

They also have food stamps which were discount tokens for Americvan-produced basic foods started I think in the Depression and I seem to recall, still going strong.

Every time you entered a town there would be a bewildering variety of signs abourt charitable societies and networks present locally saying things like "Townsville supports the United Way" and so on.

I've handily summarised the posh alerts for you :)

How funny, the cap makes me think more Andy Capp than POSH. A very working class character.

As you know from my posts OH is in colder climes for work and being out on a boat is usually work, although I admit, frequently quite nice work.

You can be referred for one but the waiting list is long, very long and it could months to get one via that route.

Not a scoobie on grants etc available, I fly pretty much under the radar with my mobility problems as I tend to try to ignore it and one would probably need to be in receipt of disability benefits anyway to be eligable...something else I do not claim (nor a Blue Badge either!)

    .

A few thoughts, seek a referral now so that if you are on the waiting list, entitled to have a long term provision and seek a short term solution (including the repair...nice offer).

What stops you applying for disability benefits, and a badge?

I am really surprised/worried that you are not in receipt of these as a regular wheelchair user :( It sounds like you are struggling with the condition without adequate healthcare input or advice. As you are assertive when it comes to the boys needs, you need someone (including your GP) to support you.

Can people on the benefits board offer more specific advice?

Agree - the twee house would be nice for a weekend - once.

The link in this I really like. Lovely garden. If I can ever afford or desire a holiday home I appoint you my official house hunter.
