We have light oak parquet in our sitting room. it is a bit scuffed looking.
Scuffed is perfect.
Looks better IMO, but also....is safer.
I like things to look used. Doozer boy was really upset when my fridge arrived dented......I was sort of......relieved.. Felt at home with it. :rotfl:

I like things nice; I figured that if I got one here, it'd have to be moved - and there's more chance of it having a dent ... better to have one delivered direct to my house when I buy one. Whatever I get will be intended "for life" so will need to be kept nice as long as possible.
I think there is great sense in this, but for a finite period deepening on the item.
Like......I do without till I can get what I want with lots of things. But I [STRIKE]won't[/STRIKE] don't walk around naked till I can afford the clothes I want because its not allowed,
I already had a freezer, it also arrived scratched and dented, I was thrilled. (With both items I phoned, explained and with the fridge took credit and the freezer some money back). Ultimately 'nice' to me isn't always perfect.
Some times it is, but not always. I', realistic about use and abuse things in my household get. I'd rather have beautiful things that weather well to a patina of wear than strive for unpreservable perfection
All this reminds me, fridge handle is loose, need to work out how to tighten it, bizarrely its not immediately obvious......(edit...oh, um, actually it is obvious, unless you are a dolt...ooops )0 -
Last night I put a load of towels on to tumble dry. It switched on but did not tumble just got hot with a burning rubber smell.
Towels were draped on the clothes horse and over the bannister to dry overnight (but boy are they rough).
So what do I do.
Do I call a repair man or just order a new one?
If I order a new one will they offer a take the old one away service?
What should I order. What is a condensing one and why would I want that?0 -
If it wasn't a forever freezer but I was planning to buy a forever freezer, I'd buy one on ebay for cheap and then sell it on ebay when I had enough. Hopefully at a profit, but probably at the same price. No loss.
someone was selling a perfectly good looking freezer for £25 on local facebook selling pages this morning.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It has a collector you empty into a sink or your house plants or whatever. It means you can put it anywhere you have a plug and don't need a hole in the wall (as you do for a vented tumble dryer).
I think vented ones are more efficient at drying. I have a condensing one, its fine for me, but I really try and use td as little as possible.0 -
Doozergirl saying Ebay appliances reminded me to check. No good. I know I don't want gas. Its got loads of watchers now. I'm so envious. Pfft. I don't want it, its silver trim, I like warm metals.

I don't know if any of the NP are keeping up with the tennis but it's a bit of a shocker: it's 42C in Melbourne, one player has collapsed and a ball boy has too. They've said the tournament will be suspended if it gets 'hotter', they just haven't defined 'hotter'.
It's not like that up here thankfully, it's going to be about 30C today they reckon. The cool change isn't due until Sunday for us, Saturday for those in Melbourne.
Mrs Generali's back at work now and she seems a bit better for it some of the depression seems to be lifting. The trouble when she gets like this is that the slightest knock sets her back. She's also sleeping really badly, not getting to bed until the small hours and then 'crashing'.0 -

Spot on. A vented dryer is more efficient but needs to be vented, ie have one of those long white hoses stuck out of the window.0
