Ok, tree totally u dressed now.
Want this variety again. Every year. Smelt AMAZING, and have hardly any needle drop at all.

I'd be be more concerned that as he is not completely veg he might consider fish oils personally and not to much rubbish.. The danger is to rely to heavily on things like cheese.
Nutrition is Broad brush strokes but best personalised, random supplementation can unbalance and IMO can do as much harm as good.
Thanks. That's reassuring. Whatever else he might need, he certainly doesn't need a fish oil supplement. Left to his own devices he would eat either tuna or mackerel at every meal except breakfast, and has to be reminded to vary it a bit sometimes!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Over Christmas I have been involved in negotiations with DS about giving up meat. We have now reached an agreement. I have accepted that he is giving up eating meat from mammals, and he has consented to carry on eating meat from chicken (and possibly other birds), and is happy to take a supplement if I decide that one is indicated. (Question - should I, and if so which kind?)
What is in red meat and not much else? Iron, vitamin A?? My knowledge is rusty.Definitely sausages in oven - much more even cooking than in frying pan, as well as less fat.
In the george foreman grill. We have had some successes, including sausages, burgers, schnitzel (turkey) and tonight steak.

I have been somewhat surprised at the extent to which other people feel they have the right to tell him that he must eat red meat or else. I would certainly never tell somebody else's teenager something like that. If I was concerned about their eating habits I might have a quiet word with the parents if I knew them very well, but otherwise I wouldn't interfere.
Interesting... when it comes to the personal relationship problems of my friends, I am generally quite a long way towards the "love them enough to say something" end of the spectrum compared with most people I know, but on this question I am coming out much more non-interfering than some people I didn't expect it from.
Tonight he is hungry.I am doing sausages and eggs and stuff for DD and me, so asked DS what he would like instead of the meat element. He wants lots of pasta, tuna mayo, fried egg, and cucumber, and happily told me he'd thought through whether he'd got all the right food groups before saying what he'd like.
There's a lot of good stuff in a vegetarian diet, but there's problems too and it never seems to be anybody's job to tell you about them. I'd be worried about eating a diet that has a philosophy. and be wary of getting advice from somebody that shares that philosophy.
I don't think red meat's the best to eat. Chicken, pork, fish all have more unsaturates, some have less fat overall. Dairy's sometimes used as a subsitute for meat by vegtarians but it's pretty unhealthy too- worse than red meat.
DS sounds like he's very sensible, and being rational about how to make the diet work safely.
We could all eat a lot less fat and we should all eat a good deal less sugar.
The high iron in some plant foods is usually difficult to absorb because of the fibre, presence of uptake blockers (usually organic acids) and lack of B12.
Some supplements have the missing metals and some fatty acids and carnosine are supposedly needed. Protein can be low, which is a big deal when somebody's growing.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

That's fair. I am a vegetarian. For me it's what I'm used to and is now about taste rather than philosophy. The good news is that I have a very good cholesterol level. The bad news is that I have problems getting enough iron, zinc and magnesium. It's all about balance at the end of the day and as a vegetarian I have to work hard to balance mine as it is much harder than for an omnivore. It is very easy to tip into having too many carbs or relying more on sugars than I should for energy.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
