To be fair, the notorious murderers you talk about didn't lock animals in a room and starve them because they didn't know what to do.They done other things and gained pleasure from doing so.So,the relation between murder or psychopathic murderers and the harming of animals isn't as simple as most people see it (bugbear of mine)-there are usually other indicators too but that's another subject!
Neglect equalling possible future neglect of animal or human more likely
Welcome back btw, haven't seen you for ages
Yes I was thinking more widely.. I mean there is no indication we have a (sexual) power crime in front of us here.
lol.. me back.. well.. we'll see... I'm very unwell but the candle burns brightest and all..lol. Good to see you are still around."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -
They didn't know what to do with them!? Take them to a shelter, ask for help! Anyone in their right mind KNOWS starving them is not the right thing to do.
Those poor dogs, I can't believe they only got suspended sentences.
Punishment nowadays should be an eye for an eye - if you are prepared to dish out this cruelty and neglect then you should be prepared to take it.
Animal abuse REALLY upsets me and this was plain callousness.
I hope street justice prevails in this case - I know if a neighbour of mine did this I would not take it lightly!!
RIP puppies

There is no inherent proof we are better than other species. It is merely our own arrogance and delusions of grandeur that allow us to think it is ok to see non-human animals as lower.
I'm sure if some alien species came to this planet and thought themselves higher than the human species you wouldn't be to pleased. When one thinks themselves better than another it leads way to all sorts of abuse - particularly the 'might is right' ideology wherein because of the notion that the human is mightier, then anything they do to animals is 'right'. It happened with black humans being treated as inferior to white humans. Male superior to female. Rich superior to poor. And most other human social injustices are due to one group feeling superior to the other and thus thinking their superiority gives them the right to do as they wish to the inferior ones. If more humans looked at animals as equals I reckon there would be a lot less abuse.
NO, an animal can not be the same as a human being. It cannot provide the 'same sort of relationship' you have with your child, unless something's seriously amiss!
The question of whether humans are inherently better (or not) than other species is a philosophical question, and I kind of agree with you that we are all part of the whole.
But sadly people are turning to their pets for human company, which is of course anthropomorphism gone mad. I love dogs and cats, don't get me wrong, but they are not people!0 -
What a warped sense of humour you possess. Definitely not amusing, especially on this topic. Can't see the point in starving a dog. More meat on it if you feed it.
Remember, at this time of the year.....A dog isn't just for Christmas. If you get one big enough it should last into boxing day and leftovers for a tasty soup the day after.0 -

Being able to find something humourous in even the bleakest situations is a positive, even neccessary thing sometimes.

If a dog is a man's best friend, then that man needs to get out more and make new friends. Or get a cat.0 -
I recall the post Dunblane discussions and debates that took place in relation to whether handguns should be banned. I also recall an interview on the radio with a guy who did target pistol shooting. He stated that if banning handguns prevented just one unnecessary death, a ban would get his vote.
I wonder how many pet owners would back a ban on pets? A ban on breeding more pets? A ban that would eventually see pets cease to be. I wonder how many pet owners would vote for a ban for the greater good of animals?
I was amazed to read that the RSPCA alone cull 50,000+ unwanted animals a year! No pets would mean no subsequent suffering and no need for culling them when they are no longer needed.
So how many pet owners would agree to sacrifice future ownership of pets for the greater good of the animals themselves? Just a thought.

I love all my furry pals and I'm all for a ban on breeding of overpopulated domesticated animals. All the animals in this household apart from one human and one hamster are neutered. Chances are it won't totally eradicate these species as there will be those who break the law and 'accidents' etc. But I imagine it will significantly reduce the amount of animals put to sleep simply for not having enough time to be found a home.0

I would certainly approve of any way to stop so many dogs and cats being bred. Rescue centres are overrun with them and yet how many are bred every year?
So many people who don't really have a clue about breeding think it is an easy way to make money (which is certainly isn't) and then when they can't get rid of the kittens or puppies they end up having to give them away or try and find a rescue to take them.
Gumtree is full of ads for dogs and cats and there always seems to be at least 1 ad in my local newsagents.
I personally would not like to see an end to all breeding of animals. I would hate to be without a dog. To me and OH, our house is too quiet and empty without one. Our dogs over the years have helped my depression, made us lots of new friends (especially when we moved to an area where we knew no one) and gives me a reason every day to walk even if only a short distance (I have fibromylgia and some days it would be easier not to do anything)The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
