Has anyone had weight gain with this? Am thinking about having it as I've put on two stone with Depo in about 9 months

I was on depo for 6 months before the nurse would give me the implant, apparently Nexplanon is the same hormones as depo so the idea was have injections to test my reaction to it then get the implant if all was good.0 -

Although the hormone is the same type (progesterone) they are a little different. There's currently no good evidence for weight gain with the implant but it is known that depo provera causes water retention/bloating.
Bit odd of the nurse to do that for you Charlie rabbit, it's certainly not common practice.
However if you are going to be committing to the implant you need to have it in for 3-6 months.
Hope that helps someone.0 -
Well, follow up to all my questions on here (sorry to hijack the thread!)
I had my post-LLETZ check up and the doc said I have severe scarring so can't have another Mirena. Booo! So I've gone for Nexplanon.
It's a bit tender at the moment (inserted about an hour and a half ago, lol) and I'm just grumpy I can't get in the gym! Hopefully it'll be as good as Mirena and help me lose my Depo poundage.

Ok I am not asking for medical advice just your experiences.
I am nearing the end of my 3rd conceptive implant. I seem to remember the nurse saying something about only being able to put it into my left arm 3 times consecutively and then having to put implant number 4 into my right arm, and stay on that arm for 3 implants.
Is this right? So when I go to get it changed I'll have this one taken out of my left arm (little cut & dressing/bandage) and a new one put into my right arm (little cut & dressing/bandage). I'm trying to plan this so I can still wear long sleeved tops and not have to make pathetic excuses.
Thanks!
Just incase anyone googles this and wants to know the outcome.
Last night I had my 4th implant put in. I had it done at my local gum clinic as opposed to my doctors fp clinic, so I don't know if that makes a difference, given the nurse probably does a lot more of them compared to the nurse at my doctors. Anyway she has placed it in the same arm. She said the new nexplanon seem to do much better. Originally she tried to place the new one further around my arm (using the same incision hole) but it wiggled itself back to the original position, she said something about that meaning there was no encapsulation which I took to mean scarring. So I'm currently sat here with only one arm bandaged.0 -
I have the nexplanon and my GP places in the opposite arm each time they replace it. I have had it done 3 times and it is always in the opposite arm.0

Do you mean left, right, left? Or all 3 in your non dominant arm?
All 4 of mine have been placed in my non dominant arm.0 -
Left, right, left and next will be back in the right hand side.0

That's interesting!! The original recommendation with Implanon was swap arms after 3 implants. From what the GUM nurse said that did mine, there's less need to swap with Nexplanon.
Be interesting to know what others' experiences are.0
