Ok I am not asking for medical advice just your experiences.
I am nearing the end of my 3rd conceptive implant. I seem to remember the nurse saying something about only being able to put it into my left arm 3 times consecutively and then having to put implant number 4 into my right arm, and stay on that arm for 3 implants.
Is this right? So when I go to get it changed I'll have this one taken out of my left arm (little cut & dressing/bandage) and a new one put into my right arm (little cut & dressing/bandage). I'm trying to plan this so I can still wear long sleeved tops and not have to make pathetic excuses.
Thanks!

I have just finished my 3rd one and I could not get in to see my GP so went to a sexual health clinic - I couldn't remember how many I had had but we just counted the scars:rotfl:
Anyway she said that I could have my 4th in the same arm as long as it was in a different place than all the other 3.
She started talking about the rules and I think different people interpret it differently.
The problem with having this one in a different place was that she had to cut me twice and with all the plasters/bandages etc I looked like I had a major op
When I took the bandages/plasters off my daughter (10) was so excited to see what was underneath and she said 'Is that it?':rotfl:
Just two tiny scabs for her to see!!
I think she thought my arm had been sliced open!!!
If they change arms then you will end up with two bandaged arms for a week!! At least in this weather you can wear jumpers to cover it.0 -
You can have a fourth in the same arm providing there is a suitable location. Sometimes it's not possible as the old implants have left a long tract and there's a higher chance of the implant migrating.
Plan to have plasters on both arms for 24hrs and its a bonus if its just the one arm.0 -
I'm on my fourth one at the moment all in my right arm just up or below the last one, not had a problem yet

Thanks everyone! Guess we'll see what the nurse says when I go in.0

now our doctors surgery always use alternative arms.
I don't personally have the implant but close friend does and she always has both arms bandaged.0 -
Please could I just ask a quick question of you ladies?
Does it hurt when the implant is taken out? Mine really hurt when the doctor put it in - I assume he didn't use enough anaesthetic - to the point where I am rather anxious about having it removed.
Thanks.0 -
I'm having my first taken out next Thursday and am really quite anxious about it. For some reason the idea of it coming out is much worse than it going in. I'm not squeamish at all normally! Not having another one put in though...First home purchased 09/08/2013

Getting mine out hurt a little, I have very little fat on that part of my arm and what hurt most was angling the implant to make it easier for the dr to get out. However, mine had hurt when lifting etc so it probably wont hurt much:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0

ooops i read this out of curiosity as i'm due to have an implant soon but now i'm a little worried about the pain, scars and bandaging.
is it worth it?0 -
For pops and Lilacblue: I had to have mine taken out early, as it didnt suit me. I am the most squamish person you'll ever meet, but it's honestly fine being taken out. Mine was tethered slightly so it took a bit longer than usual, but didnt feel anything at all.0
