I've had to avoid the steri-strips as I had a horrific burn type reaction to them.
I would say leave them on and keep them dry for at least a week and don't pull or scratch at them. They are practically doing what stitches would and holding that skin together just right. I took my substitutes off a little bit at a time and let them do their thing.
I would also add, be careful of the pressure you apply to the top of the implant (bit towards your armpit) because I found if I lay on it it pushed it down towards the insertion site and caused soreness. That stops once it's healed though!
Well done for going through it! It seems silly after but it's seriously scary when your going for it!0 -

I'd managed to work myself up so much (never Google anything!) I almost bailed out in the doctors office! Luckily I know my nurse well so she managed to keep me calm. Its turns out i made something out of nothing!
Thanks I'll leave them on, they are stuck good and proper so I Dont want to pull them and open the wound.
Thanks for the tip luckily I sleep on my other side.0 -
I'm on my second, due to get my third implant this year. When I had the first one put in there was no anaesthetic, but it was no worse than the needle from giving blood, and over much faster. The worst bit was I looked at the contraption before the doctor used it and that freaked me out more than the procedure itself! When they swapped it out for the second one the doctor was amazing, she gave me two lots of local anaesthetic, and then went in through the original scar to pull out the first one. There was a fair bit of rummaging but I didn't feel anything apart from a pulling sensation. She put the second one in the same hole, to keep scaring to a minimum, and bandaged me up. The whole thing took about 20 minutes. I had a horrendous bruise for a week or two but other than that it was relatively painless. I'll be getting my third in June, which will give me another 3 worry free years
Having used the pill, injection, condoms, blind faith, this is definitely the best contraception method for me, despite the process of putting it in.
On a slightly freaky note, if I hold my arm in just the right place i can feel it poking up, i've managed to freak out quite a few friends showing them that!current debt as at 10/01/11- £12500 -
Why would you have to make excuses MrsDrink? I'd just say the bandages were from having the implant
Has anyone had weight gain with this? Am thinking about having it as I've put on two stone with Depo in about 9 months

If it helps, and it may not, Mrs G is slimmer on the implant. However, she wasn't exactly fat when on the depo.0 -

is it worth it?
I had one a few years back and had to have it out after 6 months because I put on 3 stone+, and was permanently angry and paranoid!
The docs wanted me to keep it in for three years, I told them if they didnt take it out, I'd do it myself with a kitchen knife!:o
just be warned if it doesnt agree with you you'll have to fight to get it removed.
the putting in and removal was nothing though.
HBS my GP told me that the implant and depo are pretty much the same, because I asked about depo after my implant disaster and he said no because they are very similar it would do the same to me as the implant.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Can't answer that one.
Mrs G tried the Mirena after the depo on the recommendation of her sister but it didn't last long. It made her feel most uncomfortable. Stomach cramps, all sorts of unpleasantness.
Apparently, the only side effect her sister had was bigger boobs.0 -
It's odd how different things affect us, sorry I was thinking out loud
I am tempted to ask about sterilisation again - I'm sure hormonal contraception is holding me back a bit but I'm not taking any chances!
Only side effect I had with Mirena is it was very painful to have fitted, but I recovered very quickly once it was done.
Thanks Delain, think am gonna sit down and have a good chat with the clinic nurse
