thanks stir_crazy, that's reassuring!
@CharlieRabbit, I think for a lot of people it is worth it. It's convenient, one less thing to think about, good if kids aren't in your immediate plans but also has the benefit of your fertility immediately returns once it is removed.
For me unfortunately it just never settled. For 6 months I would have no period whatsoever and then suddenly would be bleeding quite heavily for about 3 months straight and in a fair bit of pain, so I could never totally relax with it. I stuck it out for the full 3 years in the hope it would eventually sort itself out but think I am just going to go back to the pill. Was definitely a bonus not having to remember to take something every day though.First home purchased 09/08/2013

I've had the inject twice now with the idea that i'll next go onto the implant.
I'm a huge wimp and hate pain even paper cuts.0 -
Nah doesn't hurt on removal really it's more of a stinging from the needle. Then some tugging then it's all done

I remember it going in was no worse than giving blood, just the needle going in. For some reason with the removal it is the idea of the "tugging" sensation that is grossing me out. No idea why. Bleurgh.First home purchased 09/08/2013

oh good i was getting a bit worried. though i do have a tendency to faint at the sight of my own blood. Anyone elses is fine but not my own.0
-
You dont see any blood, I had a nurse at the other side talking to me so that I was distracted:rotfl:0
-
i had to go for a series of blood tests and i was a bit pathetic, I had to be laid down with a fan blowing and all sorts, I was in the surgery for 45 minutes for each one as I wasn't allowed to leave until the colour came back to my face.0

I'm on my third - the first two were a breeze (though since the second I've been getting all sorts of side effects, the thirds the worst for it.) The third was the worst to get changed as I'm not entirely sure the doctor knew what she was doing/gave a toss as she didn't wait for the anaesthetic to take and then put it in so deep that I wasn't sure it was there to start with! Should be fun when I get it changed next year.
Benefits wise - it's worth it. Yes it may come out in a bruise but mine didn't hurt, just looked bad, and after the first 12 hours I found any cuts no longer hurt. (Usually after a nights sleep!) If you can keep the bandage on that goes over it on, it'll also reduce any bruising, I just find they slip off my funny arms!
I've not heard of having to switch arms though, so that'll be interesting!0 -
I hate to buck the trend but there's no point only getting the happy answers! Plus I am on my third implant so the difficulties below have not put me off...
The first one went in fine. A little pain and discomfort but brief and all over. Getting it out was a different story. It had been placed too close to my elbow so was very difficult to remove. The nurse tried for a while and then went to get another nurse who had a go before getting a doctor. Eventually, after about 15 minutes, it came out but not without me bleeding quite a bit on the bed and pillow (apparently, I'm a bleeder!) and the implant hitting my funny bone internally on the way out. That was like hitting the funny bone from the outside but 5 times as bad. Not good.
They then put the new one in higher up my arm and getting it out three year later was far easier. Uncomfortable and a little painful, but nowhere near the previous time! And the third has gone in the same arm and was fine.
So it seems from everyone's experiences that usually it's okay, but I had to be the difficult one!0 -
Oh dear, how near the elbow was it....First home purchased 09/08/2013
