Is the Red Cross reduced to tricking vulnerable people into donating or am I being too protective.

You're being too protective & you over reacted to the other posters on this forum IMO.

But I ask you, they would have required your bank details? Wrong though!

They would have, and wouldn't have got them from me. But I can see others agreeing to put them down

The wife nearly fell for this from TalkTalk once, similar story, sign here and we will pop you some more info out in the post...oh can you just add you bank details...will save me coming back if you decide to go ahead....sneaky, very sneaky. The perception is that you expect it from companies and not charities. The reality is that they employ the same agency staff who use same tactics to sell so you have to be vigilant

Had 2 at 7.oopm on a Saturday evening purporting to be Red Cross collectors. When we pointed out the large "No Cold Callers" sign outside on the lamp-post, they replied"But we are not cold".Phoned our local Red Cross office on Monday, they were about as interested as I am about cricket scores.

I don't answer the door. Then I look out the window to see who it was. If it's the meter man, postie or someone I like I call them back. Everyone else can do one.

Alternatively, you could just stop adding fuel to the fire....

....and politely decline to sign any forms that the Red Cross, or any other cold callers for that matter

I never politely decline whether it be cold callers on my doorstep or on the phone.
