Red Cross door knockers

Firstly we give to three different charities monthly by standing order, charities of our choice. In the past we have had the usual cold calls from the Red Cross trying to get us to donate, but now we have just had a Red Cross door knocker trying to convince my Wife to donate to encourage children to be educated in schools for first aid training. He started off with trying to convince her how important first aid training in schools was and asked her to sign a form to confirm this, at this point I came in and told him to sling his hook. Is the Red Cross reduced to tricking vulnerable people into donating or am I being too protective.
