I did the language student thing. They loathed cheddar!!
  • Morning, chook lesson required - if they wake at 0440 do you get up and feed them to quieten them? Or do they settle themselves down?

Apologies for a probably stupid question but I have no idea.

    Thanks, Tilly x

At 04:40, I go outside and tell them to shut up! They have unlimited access to layers mash & pellets so they are not hungry. Normally something has spooked one of them, that one starts honking, a couple of others join in and they go on and on and on until you snap them out of it.

SD is with us so last night I thought I'd put some chick peas out to soak for curry today (she's veggie like me), forgot what I was doing and put what I thought was about right amount in bowl, added water to soak overnight!
This morning it was like chickpea invasion of the planet, totally miscalculated and there they all were, puffed up and ready to feed several families for several days ... I must have put a whole pack in (I store them in jars, decanted from their packs). So, work time was spent boiling copious amounts of chickpeas and we now have several stashes of cooked chick peas in freezer, which I guess will save time another day!
Don't know what I was thinking!

This made me laugh out loud :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: This is the kind of thing I do when I try to cook  I love chickpeas though, but would need OH to make them into something yummy for me :o

Better weather  Send some to me please :)

What a productive day you've had - I feel quite exhausted - you must feel great for getting so much done.

I'm with you on the early morning cuppa outside :)

    Best wishes Tilly x

I do feel satisfied that the results have matched the efforts, but feeling pretty drained today ... will be taking the whole day off tomorrow (apart from one more coat of paint to the floor)!

No such thing as a stoooopid question, you don't know what you don't know!
I have to get up and let mine out of the coop, open up the run so that they can start their busy day of roaming and nagging, then I give them their breakfast, mash and corn etc. we have continued lairy behaviour (and noise) if I forget to give them a sprinkle of mealworms on top of the mash, but they do settle pretty quickly.

Unless one lays and egg early, then we have "singing" (which is extremely loud and sounds pretty much like the honking as described by Muddy :rotfl:)

Check out my multi-quoting Tilly! Thanks for the tip, balloons might have to be my simple pleasure for today ...!

06:15 this morning - they let me have a lie-in :rotfl:

They started making a fuss at 04:40 on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings

Gosh and I felt hard done by because mine were slamming and shouting by 5.15 am! Mr. Hbbb and I try to take it in turns, which helps but they always seem to wake earlier on my days!

I agree totally especially the "snap them out if it" it's almost like a noisy trance .... we get this a lot when they are singing to announce the happy arrival of an egg! Which sets the dogs off because they think the chickens are sending out the alarm call ...!

Thanks for the chook advice - I won't be getting them in this country but I am almost certain to when we move abroad.

Thanks for the reminder A, I forgot about this ... it was quite an issue when I had students before (about 20 years ago)! I remember I ended up buying geographically / culturally relevant cheese, eg: parmesan, feta and goats' cheese etc for Italian / Spanish; Emmenthal for Swiss / Austrian etc.
Thankfully L*dl do a lovely feta and a pretty tasty goats' cheese so pocket and student-friendly cheese it is!

Luckily I have two jars of tahini I haven't opened yet ... safe to say we'll be eating plenty of houmous (hummus) this summer!
