No different to E8ay 'auctions for charity' or 'Donate a % to' options.

I made the comment as the original post suggested it was a way of getting feedback, on ebay we don't have to bother with the charity auctions (unless we want to of course) to get feedback.

The forums make interesting reading, some people celebrating as they actually managed to make 2 sales this month.

Ebid did a $2m campaign States-side as they want to build-up their profile in Ebay's heartland.
As for ebid waiting for someone to buy them out, there is no-one big-enough apart from ebay and the ebid team would rather erase the site than sell to them.
Given that I've never seen any evidence of advertising in the UK I'd be surprised if they've spent that amount in the US, would be happy to read about it though.
I did a Google news search of "ebid advertising" and received no results.
It's unlikely Ebid would ever be a thorn in Ebay's side enough for them to want to buy them, if it did ever happen I'd be surprised if they didn't listen.
I actually quite admire how Ebid works for Ebid, it's never seemed that good for the people who part with their cash to list on the site.

Great way of building up your feedback by supporting your favourite charity.
Is there anywhere that they tell how much they have given to charity using this over previous months?

eBid don't organise the YDC - all proceeds are donated by the individual sellers and noted in the tally thread on the Charity board afterwards - usually with a screenshot of the acknowledgement email

This month's charity is Save the Children.

I often find that new YDC bidders often stray into my stores and purchase other items :D

So there isn't any way of knowing the true amount raised? Surely someone regulates whether the money makes it ti the charities?

Believe it or not, it's based on honesty -and it works.

All amounts raised are posted in the tally thread which will start on the 29th ~ the day after the YDC listings finish.

I'm probably picking up the wrong nuances from posts, but again this statement quoted above suggests to me that you are only likely to get bids on your main auctions if someone accidentally stumbles across them. That in turn rather suggests a lack of any real buyers at all.

It just makes me feel even gloomier about my wasted lifetime fees I paid to ebid in a rash moment.

Not at all, Soolin - the YDC plays a very small part in my eBid sales.

With all BIN listings being uploaded to Google every week, majority of my sales now come through that way.

Hi I run the YDC on ebid for a few years, it was all done on trust but sellers always posted what they had raised, and in my time (they may still do it now) people posted receipts or letters as proof of payments that they had made to the nominated charity

To this day charities are still ringing me up to donate to them :rotfl:
was 9.15 sunday morning a couple of weeks ago they rung, I am not a nasty person but that annoyed me and i told them so.

I did use to worry sometimes that people used it to boost their feedback, and tbh when people say how much feedback they have earnt on ebid, they do include feedback for charity sales or purchases and i did wonder myself sometime, but there are a lot of gooduns on there that are open about it and are great sellers all the same, tho me personally do not think that ebid do have the traffic as does ebay, and feel that some newbies do expect that there is,

You should never put your eggs in one basket, people should test the waters first, ok some may make some good sales while others nothing, it also depends on what your selling

but imo ebay have cornered the market
