I am new to selling on Ebay and when I have something really special in the mp3 player market to sell and have not gone for a buy now option I tend to get a few emails from what are obviously professionals trying to get you to sell it at a fixed price. Only for them to make the big profit. Only fell for that once but now mainly go for auction only.

Ebid advertises mainly via physical means, i.e. billboards, TV, radio and sponsorship (they sponsor the top WSB team, so get plenty of TV exposure.

Ebay pay a fortune to google adwords to ensure any google search will come-up with an ebay listing at the top if there is a corresponding item for sale. As ebay pay by click-through, I always make sure to 'click-through', but never follow-up with a bid. That way I have the satisfaction of costing ebay money.
I can never recall having seen a mention of Ebid on anywhere other than anti Ebay sites/forums, I've never seen a press ad, a billboard or a TV ad, no internet links, not even a bit of graffiti. I did follow a promotion once, but that was from a message I saw on here. They appear to get by on subscribers and are happy resting on what they've got. They've been steadily pottering along for ten years hanging on for someone to buy them out.
Way to go clicking through on Ebay ads and not buying anything, that'll bring them to their knees.

Likewise, I've never seen any ads for ebid at all in fact there own FAQs used to say that they do not advertise at all as it is spread by word of mouth.

I do recall ads from Tazbar though, but they went down a couple of years back now.

  • Firstly I must say that I found E-Bid by accident. Didn't know it was there until looking on MSE. Yep, right here on this site?

With the sales I have made on E-Bay I have been happy with but not every time.
The sales of some of my items with postage and fee's barely show a profit. Not in all cases, but a good few.
With E-Bid I can run my listings free every time, upgrade for 5p and let it run until sold, Dutch Sale the item and if not sold, re-list it.(Free again)?
I like the concept and will be using and re-listing more on E-Bid with a plan to drop E-Bay altogether.
E-Bay rules and fee's are becoming a bind.
Keep up the replies and a very good thread, Many Thanks, Dave:beer:

Ebid did a $2m campaign States-side as they want to build-up their profile in Ebay's heartland.
As for ebid waiting for someone to buy them out, there is no-one big-enough apart from ebay and the ebid team would rather erase the site than sell to them.

One thing that did surprise me was that ebid did not bother to buy-up the remnants of Tazbar. They would have added 500,000 new users for a couple of million quid. If they want to seriously compete with enay, then they need to follow ebay's route of expansion which was to buy-up any smaller rival that was having financial difficulties.

What the 'H' is the 'YDC' challenge?.

I have now taken to putting stickers advertising eBid on every item I sell on Amazon, Play and E8ay. With any luck I will drive a few new buyers to the site.

It isn't feedback I need, but buyers. So are ebid finally admitting that you can only 'sell' things on there is you do actually give it away

No different to E8ay 'auctions for charity' or 'Donate a % to' options.

Tbh, Ebid have been running auctions for charity longer than E8ay. Not that I bother bidding on such auctions, prefering instead to donate to local causes.
