You won't go to court. I've not had a TV since moving into this place (5+ years). I didn't tell them, just declined to buy a license. I have the shredder near the door to deal with all the letters "to the legal occupier" that they send. Yes, they have sent people round, but they can't get me as I'm doing that working thing.

I did notify them for the previous address. Made no difference, they still sent the letters, and people round. Hence my current (and future) "bollox to them" attitude.

    Good evening handsome :)

Was great to meet you at the weekend, your just as wonderful in the flesh as online :)

See when you were in your old house ? What type of grief did you get ? How did you deal with it? Did they come often ? Were the letters frequent ?

So been sitting down with the finances for the month, I think we will manage them no probs but sadly won't manage to have any savings to help pay for the fires or holiday etc

I don't want to have to cash in the shares just to pay for it as I think we will only be £1,000 short or so, so may borrow some money from family for a couple of months ...

We paid atleast £500 a month off the mortgage this year but will not manage the same next year as we will need to pay for the fires etc

I've been playing around with the numbers and I think I will pay the Tilly tidies to the mortgage, I will also pay a % of any overtime towards the mortgage, whilst also ensuring any debt accumulated due to getting the fires will be cleared this year, so it will be a year of slow mortgage reduction but ensuring there is no increase in debt caused by improving our home

We will not be going abroad again after Tenerife ... But I am thinking I will save for our 25th which is 2015 ... I really fancy somewhere like the northern lights but only if we can afford to go

Pension wise I am in that awkward place Z and I spoke about many years ago ... I have a small pension which will do me out of any other benefits but not enough to be worth my while, therefore I need to start paying more into my pension or atleast some savings ... But until we are mortgage free I am not going to concentrate too much on savings just incase one or both is us loose our jobs ( I will still be saving just not as much as I would like) so with that in mind I have upped my pension payments to 20% of my basic wage and any overtime I do I will put 20% into my pension as well ... However my sip will not accept anything less than £250 a month and there is no chance of me earning £1k extra a month so I will put my 20% from basic into my sipp and 20% from my overtime into my personal pension

Of course things may change again, but that's where my current thinking is

You won't be going to court, provided you don't engage with them.

Not engaging means, don't reply to their letters, phone calls, emails etc., don't open the door to them, don't say anything, and, whatever you do, DON'T SIGN ANYTHING.

I've been unlicensed for almost 4 years, and am no closer to going to court, than I was the day my last licence expired.

What type of grief did you get ?

Letters (AKA Threat-O-Grams), "We Said We'd Call" calling card, and occasional visits.
How did you deal with it?

    Ignored everything.
    Did they come often ?

A couple or three times a year.
    Were the letters frequent ?

    Roughly once a month.

Once you have had about half a dozen, they start again, repeating the cycle, ad infinitum.

To see the sort of Threat-O-Grams they send, take a look HERE.

I have nothing to hide so was thinking let them in see I have nothing to hide ... But I've been told that doing so could also be problematic

This is what I'm nervous and anxious about, I phoned them and told them I will no longer be watching live tv... I didn't just cancel my DDM so I have started the process of talking to them but not to anyone that comes to the door

Elantan, please don't worry too much. I did the same as you - by initiating the contact to be totally up front about the fact that the TV had died, I wasn't replacing it and would no longer need a licence. I've had a very occasional letter (every couple of years) just to say, hi please let us know if you're situation's changed, blah blah, so I took that to mean only to get in touch if we'd started using a TV again ~ so of course I haven't been in touch.

I have worked at home off and on for the last four years and can honestly say we've never had a visit and we've been without a TV for approximately 8 years now. Honestly, I don't think they're just sitting around the corner waiting to pounce, so try not to let anything take the shine off that magical moment of making the break, or the fact that this is positive action you're taking to help improve your long-term finances ~ it's all good!

Thanks bob and habiboo will deff deal with the situation should it arise, we won't be watching live tv from next week ( looking forward to that tbh) and I won't be forced into getting a license that will be of no use to me

In other news... I'm considering going back to uni, I'm gonna be honest here and say I am still scarred from the last time, I love studying but I still can't face it after the last time, I was so miserable on that course and found it to be very stupid, I mean seriously duplo bricks and Xmas trees made out of straws !!!!!!

Anyway ... As I'm sure a few if you are aware I am struggling to get a new job, I have been looking and I want a new job but there are very few with decent wages etc in the field I am currently in.. So was thinking maybe go back to uni to study to be a kinda CPN or something ... Now I know I would be good at this job ... I know I could do it no worries ... But I ain't gonna lie, it's not like I lie in my bed at night and think ohhh my dream job would be CPN ... I don't ... I just know I could do it very well

If I went back to uni to study nursing I would also be paid a bursary which would help with finances...

So I'm trying to decide do I want to put myself through all that again? Yes the course could be very different from before ( let's face it it couldn't be much worse) yes I could do the job, but will that job give me fulfilment ? Should I seek fulfilment in a job? Would having a great life in every other aspect be acceptable if I have a job that doesn't totally satisfy me? I don't think I would hate the job tbh ... In fact I might enjoy it and I would be good at it ... Would that be enough? Is it too much to expect to have every area of my life perfect ?

Ahhh a new quandary has arisen I see

What I do know is . What I'm doing right now is not working... I have not yet got a new job, I have no sign of getting a new job any time soon ... Would any new job satisfy me ? Meh ...no I don't think so ...

    Hmmmm

And that will be tonight's night shift quandary ... Feel free to give ideas :)

Ps ... I've been pondering this for a few weeks now it's not new ... It's just new to my diary

Can I go back to uni though ?
