So I have phoned the tv licensing people to explain that from the 18th we will no longer be watching live tv ( I'm counting down the days)
Phoned the fire company to get prices and ask them if we can order the fire £4,700 for two fires ... But they won't sell us the fire it has to be through one of their contacts ... And the price I was quoted was retail so they will need to put their bit on as well ... Not very happy about that tbh but I would like to just get it over and done with now
Phoned the company they deal with ... Got answer machine... Left a message detailing exactly what I want and leaving my name and number ... Will see when/if they get back
Have got to visit aunty today and deal with all that stuff ... Have been dealing still with lawyers etc so a lot still to do
Am night shift all week
So sleeping etc will be fun0 -
Just saw the mfw 2013 team have broken the £1 million pay off mark ... Brilliant stuff0

Good luck with all of that Elantan - not having a TV isn't for everyone, but I'm sure you'll feel liberated once you don't have all of that extra cost to worry about - even making the phone call has a pretty positive and pro-active vibe to it, so well done you! Are you still keeping the set for watching DVDs and things?
Hope the night shifts aren't too grim! :wave:Stash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Hi Habiboo
To be honest I am really looking forward to it, I know there will be part of me that misses the distraction that tv can bring... But honestly I don't enjoy anything on it at all
We will be keeping it for DVD's and for you tubing documentaries ( I really enjoy documentaries) but that's about it
I certainly won't be missing z factor or anything like that ... That's for sure0 -
I put a status up on my face book regarding this new scheme designed to make shopping easier for a certain portion of society ... It was very interesting reading peoples views
One person highlighted the issue of savings and being made redundant which once again brought a whole load of questions and quandaries for me
What if say one or both of us were to loose our jobs, we would be expected to survive on savings ... But the savings were trying to get are aimed at allowing us to retire earlier and to have a better retirement ... Other people choose to live for the day and will spend their money ( their choice I'm not judging here ) on all sorts of things and if they were to find themselves in the se position as us wouldn't have to live off of savings as they wouldn't have any
I do know people that are currently doing this and not paying into a pension or even think about savings etc ... Very much live for the day
When they retire they will get the state pension plus any benefits to take them to the standard of living deemed as acceptable by our elected government ... Now we would get ( or maybe not) our state pension... And any personal pension we have accrued ... However speaking solely for myself my personal pension will be worth peanuts ... It will however be just enough to stop me from receiving any benefits
So I would be going without through my working life in order to have a small pension... They will not be going without and in retirement they will more than likely be better off than myself as they will have benefits I won't be entitled to
It's quite a frustrating situation to figure out what is the best thing for us to do, I have been over it more times than I care to remember as well tbh ... Just the face book convo highlighted it again
So say we also have saved enough to offset our mortgage finally but just let it run .. Then one or both of us loose our jobs ... We couldn't use that to pay off the mortgage we would have to use the savings to get by as we wouldn't be entitled to means tested benefits
So is offsetting our mortgage a good idea ? Would we be better just hammering it down and having no savings whatsoever until the mortgage is paid ?
Ahhhh the quandaries conversations can bring up0 -

Simply don't communicate with them, in any way, shape or form.
FYI, they're not "inspectors". They're commission salesmen.
I've heard something about this where the person doesn't even give their name and refuses them entry etc... From what I have heard it could be a lot of hassle having to take extra days off to deal with it all and Go to court etc
I have nothing to hide so was thinking let them in see I have nothing to hide ... But I've been told that doing so could also be problematic
This is what I'm nervous and anxious about, I phoned them and told them I will no longer be watching live tv... I didn't just cancel my DDM so I have started the process of talking to them but not to anyone that comes to the door
I will not however buy a tv license purely because it is less hassle to do so than to deal with people at the door... I can't wait till the tv goes tbh as it really is the proverbial 56 channels of $h1t on the tv to choose from as Floyd would say
Beanie yep Viber is a kinda suss thing to call it lol0
