  • Lilt - so sorry to hear what a difficult few days you've been having - as usual you are such a star the way you get on and get through things, and still focused on moneysaving, I suspect I would be curled up under a duvet!
I really feel for you with the mould - I spent the weekend strategically placing those pound shop damp traps around the house, and reminding myself our house is soooooo much better than the place we were renting few years ago, when everything in my wardrobe went mouldy. If you can move, and get away from the damp, it sounds a good thing to work towards.
I'm no help on the potty training, as no little ones myself, but whereas my oldest godson was trained at just over 2, the younger one was 3 in September, showing no signs of ever being trained despite my cousin's repeated efforts, then suddenly over the last month something has clicked, and he's been fine, using the potty like a pro and dry over night. It seems that when they are ready, they are ready - and if Jelly isn't at the moment, she will be soon. Your love and care for her comes across in everything you do and write, you are a fab mum and your instinct of what to do is going to be the right choice.
    Good luck with the painting!

Whew! Had to do a big catch up there! Internet at work is a nightmare at the moment, keeps disconnecting its self. Every time I try to post it crashes. I just end up giving up.

Anyway, I'm here now. Potty training: I don't remember much about potty training Little Miss Gap. Must have gone quite smoothly. I do remember being told that she had to be potty trained to go to nursery (which she started at the age of 3) and I remember hoping that she would be by the time she was ready to go. She was (just ;)). Also, I remember nice people telling me that we don't see adults walking around in nappies so she will be just fine. She is [STRIKE](just ;))[/STRIKE]. Haha, kidding (she actually is). Children are ready in their own time, no matter what we (or interfering others) want. Jelly will do it when she is ready. No harm in encouragement but the more you want her to do it, the more she will not. Just let her do it how she wants.

I have a tumble dryer. Granted, I don't do more than 4 loads a week, usually just 2, but when it breaks down, I will be buying a new one. I couldn't manage without it. It's bearable in the summer but in the winter I NEED it. I don't find it overly expensive to run. I am careful to switch things off and only use what we need. It just mixes in with the electric cost. I know it is a luxury but it makes my life so much easier. Why wouldn't I want that?

Hope Jelly is feeling much better now xx

Hey Lilt -finally caught up with you :) Am so sorry you have had such a rough few days and poor Jelly - hope she is a bit better now. And to add to it all, being pressured into potty training is just awful - am so glad you have stopped that - it really is not fun if little one is not ready - Have seen it so many times over the years - I don't know why everyone thinks its some big competition or something! Did I tell you my daughter was over 3 when I did it? and it was quite pain free. But it was really hard listening to everyone "boasting" about their child's achievements on the potty (and then quite amusing listening to them moaning about how many accidents/washing;) for the next 2 years) when all I had to boast about was the fact that DD could read :D;) except that I didn't go round shouting it out because they are all individual and each and every one develops/progresses at his/her own pace. Don't let anyone bully you again until you and Jelly are both ready!

I can totally understand your impatience to move to a bigger place - I have a sister in the same situation - she is in a tiny two bed house and has twins sharing a bedroom - but if they move they will need a bigger mortgage so they will have no spare income for any fun. She is bursting at the seams but has had a brill De -cluttering year - selling all their stuff as they grow out of it at NCT sales - has made hundreds of pounds. She's hoping to move next year too.

Hope you are over the worst and have a bug free house now, such a shame it spoilt you few days off. You're an ace mum, it shines out from your pages.

  • Just wanted to tell you (again!) that you are an awesome Mummy (and person!). No one knows Jelly better than you so you should do things when it feel right for both of you, not when anyone else dictates.

Well done for telling your Mum [STRIKE]off[/STRIKE] how things are.

  • Oh Lilty - I really wish I could give you all the stuff, and play with Jelly whilst it is sorted. That would make me very happy :)

Glad that you've decided to do what feels right re: potty training; you know best, and I'm sure Jelly will get it when she is ready.

    Hope you're having a lovely evening x

Having a happy Jellytot is what matters! She's waaaaay ahead in maths stuff, so :j and :T for that.

Her tummy reacts to milk protein, and she's very recently had a tummy bug. So tummy issues, wees and poos are all feelings that are near each other in her little body. Maybe hard to differentiate... Dd used to be able to go to the loo just for a poo. Then would be back 10 mins later for a wee. And just before she was 3, both she and I had full-blown flu and she went back to wearing nappies for a few days, and then would ask for a nappy at around 4 or 5pm to go and have a poo!

And she has a bladder of steel! Can hold it in for hooooours!

Enjoy your day off work. Jelly's room colours are gorgeous, just like the pair of you :D. xx

The thread has been very quiet for a few days everyone must be manically running around getting ready for the festive season. Have family with us this weekend and overnight during next week so some of the pressies will be on their way. Have you enjoyed your time off Lilty? And how has the decorating gone and has the bug left your house? Xx

  • Helloooo!!! My oh my what a lot of posts!!

Thank you all for popping in. It is reassuring to read that others have either had their issues or gone and done it after the 'in' crowd forced their kids into it!

GAP luckily as Jelly started nursery at 2 there was no request for potty training *phew* - she actually started at the old one when she was 1 :) they have said they help parents to do it all the time. I may put Jelly in nursery full time when she's ready to potty train.. ;) LOL

apple YES! Exactly!! She's a tiny little body with more than enough reactions going on in there. I think she may be becoming a tad intolerant to gluten as well. Common I know as dairy and gluten intolerance goes hand in hand, but a real pig if so. But yes, it must be hard to distinguish.

BILLIE so sorry; it's been birthday season, in laws have spent a day, and I spent THREE DAYS decorating Jelly's room. However, the curtains went back up after being washed and ironed, and the new bedspread went on yesterday morning so I am really happy with the overall finished effect. The blue and pink are beautiful. I spent half an hour up a ladder scrubbing the curtain track with white spirit, then used a stanley knife to scrape splashes of paint landlord has got on there over the years off, and then followed up with WD40. The curtains glide like a dream and have successfully repaired the pulled tops so they finally hang beautifully again. 4 years I have lived with fighting curtains in there!

    What else have I done?

Gone WAYYYYYYYYYYYY Overbudget for shopping. I have a fridge/freezer & cupboards packed and I am determined to spend only on essentials this next month, until Christmas dinner of course. I have £100 put away for Xmas food :)

Kept the house stupendously tidy, got washing through and dried, popped my new duvet on the bed which is awesome!

Made more playdough with Jelly and played, painted with her (while she painted herself) and generally kept her amused/dosed up on vitamins and calpol. She... has a stinking cold :( Never rains but it pours. Luckily this time no cough has truly appeared, which is what she usually struggles with. I know she is poorly however as this afternoon she fell asleep on my bedroom rug and then went to bed without complaint when I got her up. So she is having a nap :) which leaves me blimmin stranded when I wanted to nip to buy a loaf tin and some scales!

In terms of the potty training, she is very confused. She is wearing nappies. She tells me when she has HAD a wee, and promptly removes her trousers and the nappy immediately. This could get expensive with a new nappy everytime. She sits on the potty but only briefly, then turns around and says 'Oh! None there!' - we persevere. Maybe when I go back to it in a month she will have ticked some more boxes in her brain.

Finances - Oh boy is YNAB ever upset with me. I've never seen so much red. £117 overspend on what came in versus what went out this month. And no xmas presents bought in that! I stupidly made plans to buy paint etc but didn't budget it in. I also had an extra takeaway for Hims bday and didn't factor it in, same with coffee, new duvet, spends for treat stuff in the house... :o:o:o so I am stony broke this month trying to make up the fail. Stony broke she says. Currently have just over £6000 floating around in accounts, before my bills come out.

That reminds me. I need another current account. Anyone got any ideas? I got a FD for the reg saver and use it for my main DD's. I got Hal for £5 bonus each month and a couple of DD's to cover the T&C's. I have a NatWide for 5% interest on balances up to £2.5k. I need something besides these, just a standard account that I use purely for shopping & spending money. With a finite amount in there set by me each month. To be stuck to, come hell or high water!

Boo... got itchy feet. Really wanted to go to the shop and make banana bread. Got the overripe bananas to use up and Jelly LOVES it. Oh well, will use my peace and quiet on here instead. May start reconfiguring YNAB too.

    Soon soon xx
