EE, I'll try and keep this short so not to totally takeover Lilts thread but several years ago I realised something wasn't right with my stomach and it seemed connected to wheat, I cut down a bit, symptoms eased up, had an idea about intolerances etc but wasn't too clued up so went to Dr. Dr was NO help, basically just told me if it didn't agree with me then cut it out. In the space of about a week of totally cutting out wheat and gluten I lost nearly a stone. At 5'10" and only 9st 5 at the time anyway that wasn't very healthy! It was down to not knowing what to eat and the water retention wheat can cause. Anyway, thankfully friend at work told me he was coeliac and helped me back on my feet. Didn't bother going back to the dr. Did find out I can eat other grains with no issue through just trying stuff. Fast forward to early this year and I went to the London Allergy and Free From show, decided to get intolerance tested as had been getting symptoms again. Showed I still had issue with wheat and also dairy. After a few tears I decided to go to Dr to ask to be properly tested to find out if it's whole dairy, just cows milk or lactose. Again Dr not that helpful (told me there's gluten in rice but not in rye) but sent me for lots of random tests. Tests all came back inconclusive so another visit to Dr. This one actually took me seriously and said that I have to be referred for the proper tests by a gastroenterologist so sent me to consultant. He was good but seemed to fixate a bit on the wheat issue even though I was only there for the dairy issue! Kept going on about getting a prescription for the bread and stuff but I'm really not that bothered as I don't really eat the bread that often anyway.
    Sorry, waffle/rant over

    Thanks Newme2014.

Hope you get to the bottom of the dairy intolerance.

I think I will carry on as I am - I know I am intolerant to most gluten as I can't have anything with barley in either (can you believe they put barley malt extract in crisps and chocolate ).

Too be honest apart from Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations I don't feel like I have missed out on much although it would be nice to have cous cous occasionally. (I have rectified the Thai Sweet Chilli issue - Tyrells and Kettle Chips do lovely ones as well that satisfy the urge).

Sorry to take over the thread Lilt - hope you get back on here soon.
  • Ahoy there.

Hohum it seems we are both on the same wavelength! I have just logged on fir the first time since my last post, courtesy of a monitor borrowed from work ;) it is a VGA hook up, so I am working with my screen tucked underneath my laptop now. Genuinely it cannot be rescued. The hinges are completely out, one of the wires got pulled and as if it was bad enough trying to make it stay upright without hinges, it now doesn't actually show anything anymore. It isn't worth saving, and as I am discovering right now, the whole sitting with a screen thing isn't very much fun. My back is killing me. Hooking it to a TV would cripple me.

Lucky as if I would disappear and never come back! HAW is alive and kicking, but she has a lot going on at the moment. Her 'second' job turned into a full time position and that was the end of idle days at work. She has also taken a course and learned to be a zumba teacher and taken over from her own teacher who is fighting the big C at the moment. So thats a couple of evenings a week taken up. The rest of the time is split between her other half and his girls, and exercise/travelling Ireland on her bike! I speak to her most days! :) She is very much missing MSE but she just can't fit it in any more.

EE, PP, Apple & co - I really feel for you all. I know how badly I wish for ice cream, and hot chocolate, and just plain old chocolate sometimes. I am lucky in that I know my own body and it's limitations, so after 28 years I can push my boundaries a bit and I make the choice that it is worth the tummy cramps and issues afterwards. If I had an allergy to wheat, gluten or anything else... Well I would feel like there was nothing I could eat! So please believe me when I say I am so sorry for you. :(

    Anyway onto other things...

Jelly has new boots. At the eyewatering price of £60. New sparkling white trainers (in Winter you would think Clarks could do more weather appropriate colours and fabrics) at £26. I am so lucky my mum has already shoved £60 across to my bank. I've left the extra shoe money in my shoe category on YNAB. Have a feeling I will be needing it.

Have overspent my monthly grocery budget already. True the cupboards are groaning as is the fridge freezer but still I ought to be able to stick to a budget just for one month. Maybe £130 is too hopeful for a meat eating household in the current economic climate.

Picked up some baby stuff with Boots points this morning. Stopped in the street not just by the usual pack of women who wish to discuss Jellys hair, but also a couple who asked if she had new boots on. The John Wayne style of walking obviously gave it away. They are knee high and she hasn't quite got the hang of them yet!

Concocted an amazing dinner tonight. Him yesterday made homemade burgers. A for effort, but execution left a little to be desired. They were mixed with an entire packet of stuffing mix. Should have been about half a pack with 500g of mince. So they came out as odd lbig blackened stuffing balls and were quite dry. We ate a couple each last night for dinner and then I realised after he went home that there were 8+ more in the fridge. So that along with the 8 pack of tortilla wraps he left here became enchiladas. I chopped the burgers, popped them into the wraps, added some homemade tomato based sauce that was leftover from pasta, and some cheese, and wrapped them into parcels. I then cooked a sauce with softened onions and peppers, garlic, chilli, basil & cumin, a splash of worcester sauce and some passata and once cooked down, covered the parcels in it. Added some more cheese on the top and oven cooked them with rice! SO good. But yet again I have cooked enough to feed 4 people... :rotfl: leftovers for lunch and dinner tomorrow then! The sauce was incredible actually. Very very authentic. Was proud of myself. Lol.

Anyways, off to research Macbooks. Hugs all xx

  • Awww Billie you are so sweet.

Thought you might like to see some baby pics from when she was teeny weeny:

    Thumper
    Mr Bear
    Peekaboo
Outing myself eek - love this pic of us
    My baby Kermie

Found all of these when I was checking out my photos on my external hard drive as I rescued the last of the items from the computer.

The cooking thing is inspired by MSE-ites, like SuperSaver & Greying & Lucky. Without these guys half the things in my cupboard would still be on shelves in supermarkets! I am growing to love my cooking again :)

Thank you all for making me smile. And making me find the good things in my day :)

I think she is just edible!! Adorable ...... See I am smiling again xx

  • Hahah thank you so much guys. I think she is delicious but I am hardwired to think that even if she looks like an elephant sat on her. Super broody between looking at pics of my bump as I went into labour, Jelly as a teeny baby, and with a friend giving birth at 4:15 on Thursday morning. My best friend is due Christmas Eve and I would love another one. Still, impractical, unaffordable, and in the current climate in my household not a good idea at all. Would involve moving for one thing

My feet are frozen, sat on the sofa instead of tucked in bed to be on my laptop. Listening to some new albums I downloaded. I do love my music. Avoiding getting up and taking the dried washing off the radiators. *gets up and does it* Ok so I did it. Put out the washing in the machine that just finished spinning and cranked the heating up for half an hour. The residual heat should be enough to take the worst of the wet out and the clothes will dry naturally overnight as it wasn't a huge wash so has plenty of room on the radiators. That should leave me with 2 and a half precious hours to do as I please with in the morning once I have dropped Jelly off as everything else got a firm scrubbing today.

No news from my in-laws so am guessing they will come on Friday when Him is on daddy day care duty. It is both less and more pressure at once, as I will have to clean the house Thursday night after work when the weekend is my usual cleaning up time. But I will have Monday afternoon free and Jelly will most likely nap for once, thus avoiding the meltdowns of usual Monday afternoons when they visit and she does not sleep.

Have decided to put all my energy into making extra money towards the new laptop. Any extra money I have coming in will be diverted to that fund instead of my usual 'emergency' savings. So all cashback, money back from old utility companies, housing pittance and any other money I can make will go towards it, and then hopefully I won't have to make too much of a dent in my regular savings money once it comes out.

Off to bed now. Tired bunny. Finally sleeping better. I wonder if the not sleeping was work related.

    Night xxx
