argos used hairdryer!

Bought a hairdryer from argos today, thought it was strange that the box was inside a clear plastic bag, but didnt think to mention it, when I got it home I noticed a label on the bag with the argos product code, a piece of the label had been torn off and a hand written 'R' on it (?returned?) the seal on the box had been opened and then resealed with another label that had 'opened and checked by' printed on it, but no name underneath, I carefully reopened the box, and the hair dryer has scratches on it, loads of greasy fingerprints and even a couple of hairs in the box!!!!
Do you think I have been sold a returned item?is this acceptable? my husband says it works so I should not complain, but if it has been returned, I wonder why and therefore how long it will last, also he says that as I have opened it I cant prove that I didnt scratch it, or put the finger prints on it myself.....maybe he should work for Argos customer services!!!!!
Any one else bought something from argos thats been opened???

we had furniture delivered 3 weeks ago and the bed frame was a disaster there were scratches on the wood and the dowel holes were in the wrong place
thought i would have an argument on my hands
but the woman was like ok we can send you a new one or different type...
we opted for the different type and they collected this morning,
no box half put together and smashed to peices were had tried to dismantale at their request
driver was not happy but took it and delivered my much nicer and easier to put together bed frame:beer: :j OFFICIAL DFW NERD NO 159 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH OUR DEBTS:beer: :j

Sounds like you have been sold an obvious 'pup'. If straight return no fingerprints or hair should have been on it just a straight wrong buy. I would question why it had been returned - must have been a good reason if it has obviously been used! If I was you I would return, get a refund and buy elsewhere if possible. I think Boots are doing deals on hair drying/straightening products just now if you have a Boots card (or maybe it was vouchers at till when you purchase!)

I once bought a childs night time musical toy, when i got home and opened the sealed box I found a childs NHS id card (you get issued with a paper one shortly after birth)
I was not happy to then find the item also didnt work, took it back and kicked up a stink saying it was clearly used and not sold as such but got no real response other than a refund. Wish i had complained more as looking back i had wasted a 40 mile round trip TWICE to but and return this item.
This was from a toy shop not argos but make sure you return it 'just in case'

We had this with a Travel cot from Toys R Us. They denied that it was a return but you would have had to be completely stupid to believe them.
Also, a childs car seat from Argos had to be returned as it had been severely damaged. Not really the fault of anyone in the store as the item was otherwise new. They apologised and replaced it. The even kept one back so that I could change it. The seat was end of range and in a sale IIRC so they only had a few left.
Apparently it is not unheard of for customers to con stores out of merchandice. I read on one of the other forums about a tradesman who had bought a cheap bosch drill driver from Argos. It looked brand new and he had no suspicions about it at all. When he tried using it for the first time it was obviously very worn. He looked at it closely and realised that it was an old drill with a new body on it!
Some egit had bought it, dismantled it, put the working parts in his old drill then put the working parts of his old drill into the new body!Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
Thats why companies have such strict refund / control mechanisms.
They used to be quite consumer friendly but so many whinging, moaning and exaggerating scum have abused the system.
The companies fight back and unfortunately the decent consumer suffers.
There are too many feet stamping over reacting peasants about these days.0 -
The staff of argos has to learn that if the customer says that the item is faulty its faulty. One christmas I bought a xbox game and it was new but damaged and the stupid staff said there is nothing they can do about it other then booking it in for a repair, I just paid for it less then 5 minutes ago. Then using clothes to try to make the damage go away, but making it worst, I reported the manager for being a cheeky *.0

Ive actually seen that happen.
Once I was in a GAME store, the guy infront of me was complaining that he had literally just brought the game, opened it up outside and found a scratch on it. The manager did swap the game over but he did say to the complainant that peasant scum in the past have swapped over a damaged disk within minutes of buying a brand new game.
The staff have to be cautious. Too many liars about...0 -

The staff have also probably learnt that when some customers say it's faulty they're lieing!
Does that mean then that the customers should learn that the staff they talk to do know quiet a bit more about their jobs than they do.0 -
Why would you go traipsing into Argos on a saturday afternoon, queueing up to view the catalogue, queueing up to pay for the item then waiting an eternity in queue A, B, C or D for Billy-five-quid-an-hour to shove your item up the belt .... only to take it back for a refund and queue for customer service then wait an eternity for the supervisor .... if there was nothing wrong with it ?
That's not my idea of a free lunch.
Argos is my idea of hell. With flames and sharp pointy things.0
