Do you think I have been sold a returned item?is this acceptable? my husband says it works so I should not complain

If it's the one you wanted and it works fine, listen to your husband...

  • I purchased a granite chopping board from Tesco. I started to prepare our dinner using this (lovely smoked haddock too) when my husband noticed it had a chip on the side. I returned the board and got a full refund as the only other ones they had on the shelf were also damaged. I was told they would have more in the following week, and they started to removed them all from the shelves. A week later I returned and went straight to the chopping boards to get a replacment. To my shock not only were all the damaged ones put back on the shelf but also the one I purchased and had used to!!! I knew it was mine as the chip was in the identical p;aces and had the same markings on it!!! I had used this too, how disgusting and unhygenic is this??? When I mentioned this to a friend she had the same problem only with some plates she had purchased,as they had started to craze after only a few weeks. Ok they gave her a refund, but after she left the shop they then put them back on sale!!!  Thing is they had been using these plates for their dinners!!!

I really think the retail industry should look into this, as when we purchase items sold as new, thats exactly what they should be ...new.....if we wanted second hand we would go to a charity shop or car boot and pay less.

I'm sure people would wash them before use...

  • Maybe, and yes i did although didn't notice the chip at that time, but I surely wouldn't want somebody elses rejects if I paid full wack for them!!!

The principal of the matter is a store should not sell returned goods as new items, they should be discounted and the reason placed on the item, so the buyer full well knows why.

I once bought a parasol from B&Q when I got it home it was obvious it had already been used and was in addition broken.

I took it back to B&Q, explained to the customer services it was broken and received a refund. As it was bulky I asked whether the wanted me to hand it back to them over the counter, or put it at the side of the desk or something. They asked me if I could just put it back on the shelf from where I had bought it!
  • Exactly, this is so wrong!!

Cor I was thinking about buying a parasol and maybe from B and Q too LOL, mental note to ones self....check the box is sealed and not tampered with, or I could end up with your reject too lol

She paid full for the item and by the sales of goods act, if argos did not say that it was a returned item being sold again then she can ask for another one

We don't know if it was a returned item.

Perhaps they had just opened it to have a look at it?

Consumers in the country won't be happy until we're paying double for everything to sponsor the screamers....

What with hair in the hairdryer???? I don't think so.

You may be OK about paying full wack and receiving second goods but myself and others certainly arn't.

Lindos, is the item covered by Argos no quibble return policy (things likely earings & computer games aren't)? If so, just take it back - but even if it isn't, take it back and ask for refund as you paid for, & expected it to be new, not second hand.

If you get grief over the return don't waste more time with the local staff, write to the HQ at Milton Keynes, most likely get an apology, a replacment & goodwill payment.
