There may be an easier solution. It's up to you to work out how to do this but send an anonymous letter saying you know what's going on and will report the fraud unless it stops.

I think the majority would stop immediately unless morbidly stupid.

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I had reported my neighbours for benefit fraud and although some posters ageed with me I was also called of kinds of nasty things. Scum, grass, jealous, malicious, net twitching know nothing.

If ever I did anything like that again, I wouldn't mention it on here.

Let's have clarity on what HMRC offer:
    they want:
"the name and address of the person you’re reporting and their partner, if they have one
    a description of the person
the type of benefit theft you think they are committing and why you suspect them
information about their employer, if you think they’re working
information about their vehicle, if they have one

The information you provide is strictly confidential.

You don’t have to give your name unless you want to."

So, you don't need to give your name.
That said, who else knows or might guess, And Tell?

Well I couldn't do it as I don't have enough info anyway...

That last point is very true. If she did it there is a possibility that her parent would know straight away it was her. I think she has decided to wait a bit and not rush into it.. She said she will try and have a word, somehow, without it turning into a huge fight...

Ownmyown - sorry to hear what happened to you.

Somebody else once described that mentality on here better than I can but along the lines of them all having to stick together to stop the weakest being picked off in case it's their turn next.

Ignore them, you did the right thing.

And yes, I'd report but your own parents?? Jeez, that is a difficult one. I really like the anonymous letter threatening to report idea.

Do you think your friend confided in you because she thought you'd report them, so she wouldn't have to?

And OMO, really? Wow! Don't quite know what else to say to that!

I have reported two people in the past. One had been claiming for over 10 years that she was too ill to work while all the time buying and selling on ebay. She supposedly had a bad back but could manage to lift wardrobes on and off the roof of her car. She managed to buy 2 holiday homes in that time, 1 here and 1 abroad. She was so blatant with it and loads of people knew.

I really couldn't report a close family member though such as a parent or sibling. I would speak to them about it though

Ten years ago i might have said yes, but now - rather a family member than a fiddling politician, banker, energy boss or immigrant.

This is how the rich get richer - they scratch each others back - while the stupid poor turn on each other.

Ignoring benefit cheats because you view politicians fiddling as a greater crime is like ignoring your neighbour beating their dog because the Japanese slaughter whales.
