I remember my cousin defiantly stating that once he hit 30 life wouldn't be worth living anymore and he'd probably kill himself.

He's now the same age as me (51) and has recently become a father for the first time and has recently become mortgage free.

Guess he aint saying that now!

I'm 70, going on 18! Somehow I've managed to find myself in this rather larger , so what wrinkly unfit body that I'm trying to escape! Serious age really is a state of mind ~ I socialise a lot with friends in their 40s/50s as well as Some brilliant women in their 80s and 90s.

I'm starting to budget and plan a train trip across Europe, through Russia down into china - on my own in 2016 - although my grandson has said that if he can afore it he might come with me!

When we married, King George the 6th was still on the throne and the first thing we did when we came home from honeymoon was get our ration books changed.

But we still look out of the same pair of eyes and have the same thoughts.

(You only get old from the neck down.)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

My mum will be 70 next year, which I find staggering - in my mind she's still about 45. However, she's a fit and active 69-year-old who gets plenty of exercise and I fully expect her to live to be 100. My dad is 76 and is definitely starting to get a bit creaky - he's had a hip replacement and has various problems with his joints, but he still cycles and hikes. My aunt, on the other hand, is nearly 80 and can barely shuffle along a few hundred yards without getting out of breath and needing a sit down.

I really do think that the key to longevity is keeping active and eating healthily. I've seen too many people become sedentary in their retirement and go into a rapid decline with ever-decreasing mobility.

Old is as subjective as the weather!
I've an 11 year old who is possessed by the soul of a remarkably shrewd 70 year old.
He finds his 40-something mother who still thinks she's 7 some times (and 70 when I'm aching!) a bit of a trial. (I entirely take the point about healthy living, I just haven't got around to it yet. Presuming I survive my first heart attack, I'm sure that'll change!)

I had a greataunt who ran an old folks home - she was the oldest there by two decades but had more flexibility of mind & body, as well as a lifetime's nursing experience.

I'm just back from the post office. I now feel old- the girl behind the counter called me madam!I'm fifty three. Just.
I feel really old when I consider that I will never in all likelihood see prince William on the throne, never mind his son!

I did feel old the other day. Went to buy a loaf from a bakery and the woman behind the counter - speaking very loudly - asked if I was a pensioner. I've just started getting state pension so said I was.

"It's 10% off for pensioners," she announced. "So the loaf will have 9p off, going down from £1.08 to 99p. All helps to eke your pension out!"

I think she expected my undying gratitude but I felt like hurling the loaf at her!
