A Singularly Lonely Christmas

Well I spent all of 57p today. Although I handed over £2.10 worth of empty Barrs soda water bottles. Bought some cat food for the cats, another bottle of soda, a can of cola (dont often have that, just thought why not), am eating the last of the sainsburys shopping I bought before christmas and even though Ive sat on my bahookie (bum) most of the day, well I havent frittered away any cash.
Found a bag with a bottle of alcohol free beer in it and a couple of tins of tuna, had obviously plonked it down when I came in and forgotten about it, cats have had the tuna, Im just about to have the beer.
Back to spin tomorrow morning at 9.15 am.0 -
Edit to last post...
Not going out now as friend stuck at training thing.
So no fattening meal, and no wine.
So .....have put a fiver in my jar to start me off on the road seeing as that's what it would have cost for a couple of drinks tonight, this will help me focus with a bit of luck.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Hi ive been lurking and would like to ask as question.
Im single and also live on my own (my children have left home now) also no pets.
Im getting in a rut on my days off trying to find things to do that don't cost too much money.
The weathers been sooo bad so I don't want to do any outside activities. So on the quest of trying to get fit as well ive taken up swimming. But other than that I find my days off boring atm and have started having a few duvet days... which must stop...
Has anyone any ideas... I don't have any meetup groups around my area..0 -

Hello,
Is there anything you like doing, or would like to try.? People here may have tips.
I used to buy up old picture frames at car boots and paint or spray them...dont seem to do this anymore for some reason but will get back to it.
Candle making, out of old bits of candles kept.
If you already have pots, seeds to grow things are quite inexpensive.
Do you have a sewing machine?...making cushion covers from old bits of material.
I cook loads so that takes up quite a bit of my time, and if I get into growing herbs that will keep me occupied to. If you aren't really a gardener apparently that's a good thing to start with if you fancy it.
If you have lots of bits of material you could do a quilt....that'll steal your time for sure.
Jigsaws from car boots or charity shops.
I had planned, but didn't get round to it, making all my friends a door draught excluder for xmas, you could start planning things you'd like to make for presents.
I sound very busy don't i...!! i'm not.
I don't really do much of these at the moment, but they are things I have done in the past, and some I intend to start doing again.
That's about all I can think of for now.
Oh...drying flowers if you have them, or a garden. I have just flung my birthday bunch in the cupboard with suspicious boiler to see if they pan out ok. Then depending on how that works or what colours they end up, may spray them for decs for next xmas/winter time.
Lol my friend asked me the other day if I had swallowed the 'good life' book...Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

If you can find the time and energy, you could volunteer at a local charity shop. It's great for meeting new people.
WHEN the weather improves, would you perhaps consider doing some volunteer dog-walking for a local Dog's Trust or RSPCA.
If you're 'not into dogs', how about helping at a local Cat's Protection League?
Any local Community Centres running classes of any kind - maybe Needlecrafts or Card Making?
I go to a local Family History Group - managed to meet three 'previously unknown cousins' who were also researching various branches of my family at my very first meeting . The local Library where we meet also runs Local History Sessions which have been really interesting.0 -

I'm not surprised you're proud of your DD. Not only a thoughtful, caring girl, but talented too :T
I'm beginning to think that we always see everyone with their "happy family life" being what we want, while the truth is that there are many other ways to live a life that makes you happy and content and it's what's important for you that matters. For me, I hope that this will be the year when I finally stop worrying about problems that I can't do anything about and concentrate on myself and my loved ones. The rest can go whistle
So here's to a positive year  xx0 -
Hi all,
I really ought to have moved this thread to the Christmas board a few weeks ago, but you all seemed like a lovely lot keeping each other's spirits up. Now that Christmas has passed I will close it in the next few days as we have the daily chat thread for keeping up with our online friends.0 -

Hi, Pink,
I've managed to send you one PM this morning, but my second has been rejected as you have a full inbox , but this is what my 2nd PM said...please read the first first...:)
We were thinking of a thread called "OS Single Life - We do it our way".
I was hoping we could set up the thread with a link to the original thread as there is so much useful and motivational OS advice and support in it. It would be a shame to many of us to lose it.
If we could set up a new thread, we could lay out the focus being OS practical help and motivational support in the early posts, and try to keep people focused.
many thanks
LB xx
Gotta go to work now. Have a good day....!!

I've found this thread really valuable and would be sorry to see it closed or moved.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

Thanks for posting, Spirit, I'm really pleased you've found this thread to be valuable in helping you. I personally think it could be even better if we are allowed to get into our stride on this.
The particular problems faced by singles (or indeed those who feel on their own but may be with others) need to have a forum, I believe. Let's face it, constantly being the one to resolve every single problem that life throws at you, as well as being the only one motivating yourself to keep going, is incredibly difficult. The support offered on this thread by all (singles and partnered people alike) has been fabulous. It would be a shame to lose it. However, it needs to remain focused and not wander off any which way, which has unfortunately and rather disappointingly happened in the last day or so....but has been pulled back and made to focus again by some fab OS focused posts.
I have also been much heartened by the number of views of this thread - 43,500+ isn't generated by half a dozen people, so I'd hazard a good guess that there are many people out there who are finding this thread at the least good to read/good company, and at the best, a very valuable resource.
I also think the fact that people are dropping by with comments/asking for help shows it's a lovely approachable and supportive thread and mostly attracts lovely supportive and approachable people (so how are the majority of us single? :rotfl:)
Can you imagine if all those lurkers joined in, just what amazing experiences/brain power/motivation they could all bring to a thread like this?? Falls over in sheer excitement :rotfl:.
Anyway, have got yet another bloomin meeting now so I'd better go. Have a lovely day, posters & lurkers alike. Lets see what Pink thinks when she gets a chance.
