Just been catching up with the thread. I always find it interesting when someone posts on here about the concept of the thread and what people deem to be necessary/unnecessary. I personally, like many other people (I think) see this thread as somewhere where I can chat with other lovely like minded people and try to reduce my spends on toiletries and use things up. For me, this doesn't always mean not buying unnecessary things but rather trying to reduce buying unnecessary things or getting them at a better price.
I too enjoy reading this thread for the chat and recommendations. I've found some lovely products from recommendations on here and this in itself has stopped me wasting money on hyped products. For me unnecessary is something that I would never use, In my case my failing was QVC. I was easily tempted into buying kit upon kit of beauty products because it had phenomenal ml for ml value! Not much value if it's going to sit in a drawer forever is it?sunshineyday wrote: »Afternoon ladies, hope you all had a good Christmas,

Happy pampering xo
How long did the cleansing balm last you for? I opened a 30ml tub on Christmas day and seem to have made a sizeable dent in it. Not sure if I'm applying too much.
Nice haul you have there too. Surely, you're not getting worse if you are stocking up on products at the beginning of the year?Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I know I'm the same. I was really kicking myself for missing the set from Debenhams however today I have put my Christmas presents away and actually got around to making a list. I really do not need anymore shower gels/body lotions. Will post list later when I have caught up with thread.Clutterfree wrote: »It also interests me to see others likes and dislikes and their Holy Grail products.
With that in mind, I was thinking of starting a little spin off thread where we could all list our favourite products for 2013. Eg, fave cleanser, fave toner, fave shampoo etc. Then all the HGs would be in one place and then end of next year we do the same to see if they are the same or we've found better products.
It may have already been done before, I don't know if there's a thread like that.
What does everyone think? I don't want to start it if nobody is interested. Be honest. It wouldn't be an ongoing thread like this, just an annual one.
It just interests me so thought it might interest others.
This is a great idea. We have done this before in the past but making this discussion into a new thread would be ideal as the discussion ends up getting lost within this thread IYKWIM. Please post a link when you have set it up.ValM - the basin in my bathroom keeps getting clogged up, it is a devil to get at, so far I get by using washing soda and boiling water every couple of weeks, and if I forget I pick up of bottle of some noxious stuff from Aldi or the like, I blame my cream and balm cleansers as I have only recently started using bar soaps again.
Oh dear and there was I defending my cleansers to MrM. Thanks for the tip re: washing soda.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. cakeadoodle wrote: »Ta da! Finally got there. I do love a list but this was a real chore! 362 products total in the final count, some of which I've managed to ditch (mostly nail polish) as they were past their best, so I have 338 to work my way through. Have multicoloured nails from checking whether nail polishes were worth keeping or not. That will be fun when I pop to Tesco shortly
Things I'm not counting: Soaps - I don't have too many of these and keep them in a little jar on the bathroom counter so they generally get used up. Shampoo, conditioner and deodorant - I go through these regularly enough that there isn't really a stash, just what I currently use. Although I have included some shampoo and conditioner miniatures on the list to remind me to take them to the gym to use up. I've had some of them for donkeys years. Finally, perfumes - I only really ever have 2 or 3 bottles on the go and tend to use up any samples or freebies as soon as I get them. Learned my lesson there after realising that very expensive perfumes had gone bad whilst I used up cheapies for normal wear. I do it the opposite way around now and never let a nice perfume stay in the drawer unused.
My plan of action is (based on advice from the thread) to tackle the single use products first (e.g. skincare samples and bath bombs) then the stuff that's almost used, half used etc. before I open anything new. I'm going to take the smallest bottles of shampoo and conditioner to the gym and all of the small body lotions, as I'm more likely to take the time to use them up after I come out of the shower there.
I feel a bit sad that some of the more expensive bits I've treated myself to over the years were set aside, whilst I've tried to use up boring bits. Many have languished in the stash and aren't as nice/smelly as they were. Also realised that quite a lot of the stuff I struggle to use up is gifted (lots of new sanctuary and soap and glory this christmas) so perhaps I'll need to be a bit more vocal about products I enjoy usingNot that these things aren't nice but I'm sure it's hard for anyone to use 2 kilos of the same body cream without getting sick of it!
Hoping for lots of UU's to report soon
Start 28/12/13 362 products
Current 338 products
Body Lotions (Start =53 Current = 51 Reasonable = 2)
Well done cakedoodle on making your list and starting a plan. I've been following this challenge for a few years and have never plucked up the courage to actually make a full list (because it always seemed so daunting) until today. Your comment above made me smile re: reasonable number. Out of all the products in my list there are only a few items that I own one of and not many more than I own one of and have one in reserve. I do like to get stocked up from Christmas/sales so it's inevitable that I have a stash again but this in itself helps me to control my spending.OK updates, mostly INs :rotfl: and LOTS more to come as my online orders arrive, I'm currently at 440 items, it will easily reach 500 by the time they're all here, oh well, I'll be stocked up for a long while so never mind!
INs
Very happy! I went to Debenhams (no luck in Boots) and got my Lancome set of La Vie Est Belle for £28 and Giorgio Armani Si for £42. I thought the Si was a 30ml set but got home and realised it was 50ml:D:D, the 50ml perfume alone is worth £62.50, hugely thrilled with that unexpected bargain!
Also, in Boots I picked up a Sanctuary set I hadn't seen online, it had only things I'll definitely use in it and full size as well! I had resisted the Ultimate Pamper Box because it had things in it I had no use for.
This is the set I got....
http://www.sanctuary.com/en-gb/absolute-body-beautiful/
Very good for £10, I know the butter is about £9 on its own so very happy with that price, a perfect set for me so I got 2
No I haven't got tickets, I'm meant to be going with a friend but nothing doing as yet. I'm going more for her tbh, I wouldn't be massively gutted if I didn't go, much as I like Gary, I prefer Take That in concert (without Robbie TYVM!) to Gary on his own
I love it when you get a real bargain like your perfume gift set and it's great thatyou will get use out of all the items inside them. I was really tempted to buy the Liz Earle stocking that's on sale because the stocking is so lovely but I much prefer to get full sized products to use rather than smaller sized ones. I suppose I could have got one and put it away for a gift for next Christmas but we all know how that goes.
Am now going to start chanting "Leave Robbie alone, leave Robbie alone". xBack for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Hi all,
Just done my count up ready for 2014. I have:
5 face creams + 1 night cream
5 shower gels
1 body scrub
2.5 packs of face wipes
1 facial cleanser
4 foot creams
11 body lotions
3 hand creams
3 eye cream s
3 shampoos
3 bubble baths
0.5 conditioner
hardly any hairspray!
I've not included the travel sizes I have as I just refill them for holidays and nights away.
42 items in all. Not bad considering I started the challenge with 69 items. Should only need to buy hairspray and conditioner anytime soon.0 -
Afternoon everyone!
Like others on here, I am enjoying the chat and seeing what products are recommended etc. As I've only just started my journey with using up my stash, I'm nowhere near being able to take people up on their recommendations. One day, one day.
I'm currently trying to work my way through most of the travel sizes I've stacked up over the past few years. I thought that I would keep a small stock for guests, but our visitors are few and far between as most of my friends have more than 1 child and our house is not big enough for hosting a whole family. So, it falls to me to try to use up all the products!
I started a new body lotion this morning, but I've evidently had it for too long as there was a really musty smell. I'm having to declare my first TA, which is: Scottish Fine Soaps Celestial Body Lotion 50ml. In its defence, the matching shower gel is lovely.
I also have a genuine UU: White Company Conditioner 30ml. Not my favourite, but fine for travel. WNBA but I do have a couple of other ones left....Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Hi Ladies,
The first part of my Christmas confessional - the sales haul:
From my rounds in three branches of Boots on Boxing Day:
S&G Facetime set:
Off Your Face wapes
Smooth Operator Lip Butter Balm 8g
Puffy Eye Attack Hydragel 14ml
The Feel Good Factor BB Cream 50ml
Boots Extracts Body Butter Collection:
Cranberry, Coconut, Mango and Cocoa Butter body butters x 50ml
Boots Extracts Body Wash Collection:
As above but x 75ml
No. 7 The Skincare Collection:
Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser 50ml
Beautiful Skin Eye Makeup Remover 30ml
Protect & Perfect Day Cream 25ml
Protect & Perfect Night Cream 25ml
Was particularly please with the S&G set as they only had it in the last store I went to and it was the only one - my love affair with S&G body/bath products may be long cold but the skincare/makeup is still exciting to me!
Lush online order placed last night:
Bombardino bath bomb
Cinders bath bomb
Snow Fairy Cone:
Snow Fairy Shower Gel 100g
Shimmy Shimmy massage bar
Angel's Delight soap 70g
Party Time Goodies:
Green Fun 100g
Happy Hippy Shower Gel 100g
Snow Globe soap 120g
I don't often buy from Lush but I do usually get gifted some at Christmas, didn't get any this year and I do like the novelty value of their stuff so thought it was a good time to indulge while the sale was on.
In my defence, the Christmas sales (as can't call them January anymore) is the one time I do have a bit of a blowout, I love it! I spend my Christmas money this way as generally find the clothes sales a massive jumble sale I can't be bothered rooting through - plus there's no worry about finding your size with toiletries! :rotfl:
I'm off to see what the damage is gift wise, I've a rough idea and there's plenty of S&G but no Righteous Butter thank goodness!! I know I'm going to be so much better at moisturising now I've products I really like :A
Must admit I'm not sorry to see the bathroom shelves and baskets looking fuller - must incorporate some good storage into design for new bathroom!!0 -
