It also interests me to see others likes and dislikes and their Holy Grail products.
With that in mind, I was thinking of starting a little spin off thread where we could all list our favourite products for 2013. Eg, fave cleanser, fave toner, fave shampoo etc. Then all the HGs would be in one place and then end of next year we do the same to see if they are the same or we've found better products.

It may have already been done before, I don't know if there's a thread like that.
What does everyone think? I don't want to start it if nobody is interested. Be honest. It wouldn't be an ongoing thread like this, just an annual one.

It just interests me so thought it might interest others.

Another vote for this excellent idea!!! :T:T:T

cakeadoodle - well done for posting your list. I have a list saved on my laptop and might, if I'm feeling brave, post it... :o

A UU Spa bath salts. I had to go to B***s to look for something for my mum, they had sold out but found a Extracts bag and thought it would save me a wasted journey so a set of coconut and one of mango extracts bits are also in. I really must stop now, my stash list has got horribly long. £1 saved in the jar though :money:
Debt free and busy treating myself:)

No more toiletries/make up until I've used what I've got stashed since Jan 2011, graduated October 2012. Restocked Dec 13..damn those sales

OK updates, mostly INs :rotfl: and LOTS more to come as my online orders arrive, I'm currently at 440 items, it will easily reach 500 by the time they're all here, oh well, I'll be stocked up for a long while so never mind!

    UU
    Clarins Clarins Double Serum 1ml

    INs
Very happy! I went to Debenhams (no luck in Boots) and got my Lancome set of La Vie Est Belle for £28 and Giorgio Armani Si for £42. I thought the Si was a 30ml set but got home and realised it was 50ml :D:D:D, the 50ml perfume alone is worth £62.50, hugely thrilled with that unexpected bargain!

Also, in Boots I picked up a Sanctuary set I hadn't seen online, it had only things I'll definitely use in it and full size as well! I had resisted the Ultimate Pamper Box because it had things in it I had no use for.

This is the set I got....

    http://www.sanctuary.com/en-gb/absolute-body-beautiful/

Very good for £10, I know the butter is about £9 on its own so very happy with that price, a perfect set for me so I got 2 :D

I also got bath salts because I like to dissolve them in the sink when I wash.

    So, my INs.....

Betty & Walter Bath Salts 550g
Giorgio Armani Si Eau de Parfum 50ml
Giorgio Armani Si Shower gel 75ml
Giorgio Armani Si Body Lotion 75ml
Lancôme La Vie Est Belle EDP 30ml
Lancôme La Vie Est Belle Body Lotion 50ml
Lancôme Vernis in Love Nail Polish 6ml Madame Tulipe 179M
    Lancôme Hypnose Mascara 2ml Black
Laura Ashley Imperial Bloom Bath Salts 150g
    Sanctuary Body Wash 250ml x 2
    Sanctuary Body Scrub 200ml x 2
    Sanctuary Body Butter 300ml x 2
    Sanctuary Hand Cream 30ml x 2
I'm not sure which box of bombs I received but it was in a white box tied with brown ribbon and looked like a box of handmade chocs. They are in a dish in the bathroom and I can smell them as I walk upstairs.

I got some of those and I can't smell them at all, they also stuck to the sink like cement and clogged the plughole, so the other 4 are getting GA'd!

Ah, I see what you mean about the non-purchases now. I really thought you were going to throw caution to the wind and not buy anything at all.

I won't swap with you if you don't mind. I don't mind using mine up but don't really want any more. Are you a member of the fb group? Might be worth putting them on there.

IKWYM about the Candy Cane one. I have not succumbed to the bottle of Peppermint Stick after all. Am still a bit miffed that I missed out on the Philosophy Pure Grace kit that was reduced to £17.50. I can't remember who was looking for Philosophy on the sales but I hope they managed to get this. Was a real steal.

I have bought a few more things on the sales:-

In Sainsbury's yesterday I picked up 2 x Burts Bees kits each reduced from £13.00 to £3.90 and both containing:-

Deep Cleansing cream, Hand salve, Body lotion, lip balm and Foot cream. All travel sizes so am going to save for my hols with the exception of the lip balm which I want to use now. I did have an M&S one on the go but I managed to melt it so this will be a TA.

2 x Vaseline lip balm tins. Reduced from £4.00 each to £1.80 each. Each contains 3 x lip balms. Emma had asked for one so thought I was being very kind buying 6. Who knows may have some left again next year for her to make Christmas hampers with again. lol.

Then I got the email from Liz Earle about the 40% off sale and bought one of the Essentials kits for £30.00. I know I don't need this now but figured it will save me paying £43.00 for these when I do need them.

This is why you are drowning in the Blooms oil as well then??

My cousin was given Gary Barlow tickets for Christmas. Did you manage to get any?

    Nice sales stuff!

No I haven't got tickets, I'm meant to be going with a friend but nothing doing as yet. I'm going more for her tbh, I wouldn't be massively gutted if I didn't go, much as I like Gary, I prefer Take That in concert (without Robbie TYVM!) to Gary on his own :)

Kadison that Sanctuary gift set looks lovely and good VFM. I haven't seen that one in my local Boots either. I was surprised at the cost of some of the gift sets, one soap and glory one was originally £18 for 3 smaller versions of the sugar crush stuff. I worked out that as there is normally a 3 for 2 on in Boots, you could get full sizes for less than that. Didn't think it was very good value either when it was reduced to £9. There were loads of them left in my local Boots, unsurprisingly.

    Quick TA -

202 - Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm mini - had used this for a bit and then forgot about it. Just went to use it again and it smelled funny and had separated so TA. WNBA as didn't seem to do a lot anyway.

Just the nail polish to go and my stash list will be finished. Over 200 products so far, please tell me I'm not the only one… :rotfl:
Don't worry cakeadoodle, my list is probably well over 250 items and I don't even count make up or nail polish. :embarasse
I'm only six weeks in and have barely made a dent but it took years to build up my stash so it's going to take time.
That's exactly how I feel. My stash has been accumulated over years and years so I know it will take years to use it all.

Just been catching up with the thread. I always find it interesting when someone posts on here about the concept of the thread and what people deem to be necessary/unnecessary. I personally, like many other people (I think) see this thread as somewhere where I can chat with other lovely like minded people and try to reduce my spends on toiletries and use things up. For me, this doesn't always mean not buying unnecessary things but rather trying to reduce buying unnecessary things or getting them at a better price.

I dunno, just my thoughts really and I imagine different people use and see this thread in different ways. I also find it interesting to see what other people use and to get tips for myself.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. This thread has definitely made me think more before buying anything and has made me question why I feel so compelled to buy things in the first place. I haven't managed to miraculously change my ways, but I have certainly drastically reduced my toiletry purchases which I feel is an achievement for me and it's always nice to know that there are other people like me out there. :)
Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.... :/
  • I have a few more UU to declare before the end of the year:

    - TBS Chocomania shower gel mini: WBA, loved the scent but I don't need any more shower gel at the moment!

    - Sure Deodorant: WNBA, didn't like the scent (it was one of the pink aerosol ones)

    - Avene Cleanance Soapless Gel Cleanser mini: This is my HG face cleanser. Going to keep the mini bottle to decant into for travelling (not that I travel that much!)

    - Aveeno Creamy Moisturising Oil: Love this body lotion, it sinks in so quickly and smells so wonderful. However I have enough body lotion to last ages so won't be buying this again for a while.

    - Mac Cleanse off oil 30 ml: HG makeup remover. Again will keep the bottle for decanting into.

    - Lush Helping Hands: Had to actually throw this away as it had gone funny. I've got more into moisturising my hands recently so I would re buy this and make sure I used it up in future.

I agree with all the sentiments about this thread helping you to really think about the purchases you're making. I haven't bought makeup since December 2011 because of this thread. Then I managed to graduate on the toiletry side in 2012 but kept reporting in here. As soon as I stopped following along, that's when I started stocking up again. I don't have silly amounts of things like I used too, but it doesn't fit in my bathroom cabinet like it used too!

Sorry to quote myself :o but this post wouldn't make sense if I hadn't!

Kadison, I'm wondering if you received a duff box. Even today I can still smell them on the landing. I've only used the rose one so far but my skin smelt lovely and rosie all day and there was no residue on the bath either. Strange.

Does anyone know if Bomb Cosmetics do a sale? I've looked on their website and all the Christmas items are still full price. By the time I looked at the Lush site there wasn't much left so thought I'd try Bomb instead.

    Thanks. :)

Cakeadoodle - you have some lovely things to use up in your stash.

Kadison - I admire your honesty about your sale shopping, it's nice to admit that you have bought things without being shot down in flames.

    I have a uu

Soft Lips Aloe Lip Balm - WBA and think I already have another aloe one and a vanilla one, they are SPF20 which I like.

We have gone a bit mad (for us) in the sales this year, yesterday we called into Clarks because DS needed some new shoes, we got one smart pair half price at £14 and an everyday pair which were reduced from £38 to £25 when I got to the till this pair had gone down to £10, brilliant value as he should get a full year of wear out of those. Me and DH both got new walking boots half price and a new coat for DD for next winter, all great but we are bursting at the seams with stuff already.

Yesterday I forgot to declare my most bargainous Boots ins

Poppy King for No7 Lip Crayons x 3, these are gorgeous and I have been using the ones I already had for a while but they don't last long, anyway I spotted two colours in a box in the sale section marked at £2 each (I believe full price they were £11) I bought two and DD got one and they went through on 3 for 2 so £4 for 3 of them. I am proud that I didn't go back and get more, although I may have done had it not been so busy;)

I've had the chocolate box ones too, mine were lovely as well, I seem to remember in one of the boxes though there was one that made a right mess of the bath with tiny little seeds! Not sure about the sale, although I know they're sold on plenty of other sites so might be worth looking about.

Thank you for all the advice regarding the bathroom refit. I've found a site called mybuilder.com where you can post details of the job you've got and either invite local trades people to quote or they can approach you - there's reviews, ratings and photos of work on there so it seems really promising. Also got a few recommendations from friends via Facebook. Going to get three or four quotes next week and take it from there, exciting! :D
