I assume weekends are for chilling and Universal Jobmatch and other Job sites don't post new Jobs until Monday :o

Plenty of the job sites do post at weekends .... and nothing to stop you searching over the weekends -some people on 35 hour search spread their searches over 7 shorter days rather than 5 longer ones. Plenty of people after all work weekends and have their days off in the week nowdays.

Why wouldn't anyone look for a job at the weekend (not just talking about the op here)? If you were unemployed and walking along the high street and saw a sign in a shop window saying there was a vacancy, would you ignore it because it was Saturday?

No you wouldn't but that's not looking for a job is it, that's coming across one.

The point I was making about having weekends off was although you are unemployed you are still entitled to recreational time just the same as if you were working.

As long as it looks like you are doing enough on the weekdays then you only need to look on the 5 days. Maybe they said 7 days as you didn't have enough hours during the week to look for work on the other 5 days. Generally I look for work during the time I would be available for work.

You only need to log on to UJM and do a quick search if you don't have that much time available on Saturday....then spend a bit longer on Monday. It's Saturday now so just log on and search instead of posting on MSE.

No because it has said 7 ever since the first day I signed on so I never been given the opportunity to do anything else

I have already checked UJM and others before I came on here so I have looked at the vacancies today, it is not looking for them that is the issue, that takes minutes, its the applying for them that takes up the time that is difficult as I need to concentrate.

Perhaps I need to start finding 'unsuitable' jobs at the weekend and then re-find the suitable vacancies on the Monday, but then I am in danger of getting a sanction because I looked at the weekend but did not look properly as I missed a job to apply for.

Then you have done as required. Take a few notes and customize your application on Monday. I only ever really applied for not much more than 3-4 "proper" jobs per week and it took me a few days to think about how best to word my application and CV and research the company prior to sending in my application....but that's we agreed would be required on my Jobsearch agreement.

But surely it's not about whether you must do jobsearching on a weekend, it's about maximising your chances of finding a job.

but to maximise your chances of finding a job you would need to search 24/7, but that's not possible.
It's all about balance in my opinion.

Whatever time you spend away from searching is time missed from finding a job but you can't search 24/7.

Well with a 35 hour job search Id expect a few more.

Depends on the type of job. I think 2-3 jobs a day for professional roles is more than enough. For warehouse jobs? You should be spamming them out, there is little variation amongst low skilled job requirements.

Clearly 24/7 would be impossible but I don't think it's unreasonable for people to spare a few mins at the weekend to check if any new jobs have been listed.

Your not on minimum wage so you dont have to spend 35 hours looking.
