Have now had a catch-up on the thread as well as my finances... I have to confess I'm getting a bit addicted and will definitely be joining the January thread, and I've also abandoned some other challenges as I'm finding this one more fun!
kangadoo - Glad to hear I'm not the only one who considers cheese to be an absolute essential!!
NSK- Yay for Olympia!! I go most years, but this year since LBM am being sensible and watching it on TV with mulled wine and a mince pie instead.Which day are you going? Love the Shetland Pony grand national and well, everything tbh!
tiptoesDB- Sorry to hear about your kitten, hope you get her sorted soon.
Anyway, I really must be off to do some actual PhD work rather than entertaining myself here (boo hiss), tidy the house and a few other bits and bobs.... Have a good day everyone! :beer:Debt: [STRIKE]£8652[/STRIKE]£8550:eek:

Just a quick update to say that today will NOT be a SFD after all.
Forgot that we have a charity dress down day and cake sale at work today and I 'forgot' to bring anything in for lunch as well.
Tomorrow is looking a bit iffy as a SFD too as OH has agreed for us to go to a church fair with some elderly neighbours (80=) that we sort of look out for (he has dementia and she looks after him on her own, one son who lives far away).
Getting a bit worried that I won't manage the relevant number of SFD's this month  but I WILL try my best.

Happy Friday Folks!
I appear to be struggling a little this month, but I always thought that December would be like that.
I'm not struggling with SFD's, I'm now up to 8. Not struggling with food budget either, I can't update my current total, but it is about twenty pounds more than my signature says, I had to get some squash yesterday, and a few other bits that I kept forgetting to get.
What I am struggling with is my entertainment budget. For December this included my Christmas gifts budget too. I did spend some of it in November but as it was from a separate account I didn't have it in my totals. For December I decided to add what was left of it to my entertainment budget. I allowed myself £200 to see myself through this weekend away and Christmas with the folks. My present shopping has all been done on card, apart from one purchase.
Not too bad so far right? well, I'm disheartened to say that I have added £300 to this account. I didn't really factor in how much I was spending on each person and I also didn't count everyone when I first guesstimated my budget. The second half of that £300 was added to the account yesterday when I was trying to update my spreadsheet and I saw that I had gone into the overdraft by £1.01. This has annoyed me and I think there will be a charge but I shouldn't have to put any more into the account now.
My spreadsheet doesn't tally up with what I have in my wallet though, but I am up on money rather than down. I spent a few hours trying to work it out last night and I just can't find where the money has come from. It's totally bizarre! If I was down, I would know it was from a present I had forgotten to log or something, *scratches my head*
I'm going to keep plowing on with the challenge though. I still haven't taken my fuel money out of the bank but I don't think I'm going to be able to manage to not take it out.
Was doing great on the lunches to work as well. Brought my bag in yesterday. I had gathered my chapattis and naan for my curry and decanted some nuts before I left. Sadly though, I forgot the curry!!!! So I had to go to the canteen for the first time in months. The annoying thing about this was that we get a Christmas lunch voucher at work that if you don't want an actual Christmas lunch can be used up to a certain value. Because I am travelling today I planned to use the voucher today to save tubs having to be taken home and washed. Didn't use the voucher yesterday because of this plan so had to spend. Couldn't recycle the curry to today because it had been left out with fresh cooked rice.
Onwards and upwards though right???Feb NST #4

Still here but this week has hell on earth. Two relatives taken into hospital, one stopped the fluids to for over 24hrs and now they have decided to reinstate the fluids as there is some response. I am truly shell shocked and not happy as there is no quality of life after all this. Other seriously ill.
I am finding it hard to cope with what date of week it is let alone spending. Just been out and bought lots of cakes pig out time needed. Xmas shopping not started and looking like credit cards may have to be used. Going to try and bounce back to some normality over weekend hopefully. Spreadsheets will be done, xmas pressie shopping must be started. Roll on next year.LBM 13039 1.1.13 Now £0 Finally Debt FreeMortgage free Oct 2019:)EFund/savings £25000 10/11/220 -
Hi All
Just been catching up in the thread :-)
Well I had my gall bladder removed on Monday and came home the same day. All went well and I don't feel to bad considering.
I had a Sainsbobs delivery today comprising £64.07 food/groceries, £25 alcohol and £1.28 pets. I have decided to separate these headings to see how much I spend in each. Might break it down further in Jan. I got free deliver for spending £100 and then used a £12 off £60 voucher so pretty good.
I have booked another for next Thurs which should see us through the festive period pretty well. That was the last day for the free delivery offer and I have another voucher :-)
Just done an order for Tesc0 clothing. Some school uniform, socks, slippers for M and a coat for me in the sale. Hope it fits - a £20 bargain and I am in dire need of a warm waterproof coat. I have a thin waterproof one and a wool one with no hood but this will be perfect for the school run etc. They have £10 off £40 at the moment (there s a code on the website) and free delivery over £50.
Have kind of lost track of my money a bit with being out if action. My spreadsheet is on the pc downstairs and I have been mostly upstairs on my now repaired iPad - I love having it back :-) I need to get back on track and start planning for 2014.
I am very happy to report a total of 7 SFDs so far and hoping for a few more over the coming days. Have updated the totals in my sig so am keeping track of spending at least.'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'0 -
Why on earth are almost all heels in cheapish shops at least 6 inches high these days??
Because said ladies who wear such shoes are likely to take them off soon after getting a little blathered and thus don't need to worry about "walking" - into said equation place a taxi en route to said venue where these monstrosities aren't required and side-lined for flatty flats I would deduce that only those wishing to stand perfectly still for no more than 10 minutes would be the lady of sort to wear such shoes................or ahem...... those that don't stand at all... :rotfl:
I bought a pair from Primarni for a Vintage stylee photo shoot and where the platform balanced the height of the shoe I resembled a transvestite as barefoot I am 5'8".. in said shoes of 5inches... postively "gi-normous" <
Northern Irish word for ma-hoosive...
So in reflection a nice motherly pair of flat leather sling-backs from M&S IS possibly the best option these days........or plastic bags.....:T“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Calling14, so sorry to hear about your family members. I had 3 members of my family be dangerously ill within a few months of each other, all are ok now but it was a seriously worrying time. I do hope everything turns out ok.
