hi guys im at a little bit of a loss
My mum seems to have 3 viruses on her computer. All i know is that 2 are backdoor viruses and ones a trojan....
The viruses wont let me open AVG everytime i click on AVG to open it they close again. The same goes for AVG anti-spyware.
I tried to google for Hi-jack This. But every time google brought up a search for it also closed the internet window (but strangely you can search for other stuff though  )
Ive used a couple of the free scanners above and they find the viruses ( i dont know what they are cos the path file is so long i cant expand the columns wide enough to find out what they are
)
The problem ive come across is that the free virus scanners in the sticky thread at the top all want you to pay before removing the viruses.... Are there any other free anti viruses that i could use that could possibly get rid of the viruses on me mums computer??
any help would be most appreciated
James
P.s. i have also done searches with Spybot and adaware and nothing has come up. I know those two are to do with spyware but i thought i would give them a quick scan just in case

From your computer download stinger http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and put it on a pen/flash drive then go your Mums PC disable system restore http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405 Insert Pen drive and the click on Start, Run (and run the stinger file from the pen drive) see if that helps.0

any clues as to which one it is, anything in the logs, any symptoms?
which av/antispyware have you tried?
have you tried any rootkit scanners?
does start, run msconfig , or start, run, regedit work?
Can you see any unusual processes in task manager?
does this run?

No symptoms as such, my mum only noticed she had a problem when she tried to update AVG cos everytime she opened it, it closed after 5 seconds.
By the way rootkit scanners??
msconfig works but i couldnt see anything rogue in there ive not tried regedit yet but if i remember rightly thats something thats waaayyy out of my league lolSavings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580 -
A rootkit is malware that hides itself from the operating system, so traditional av products can't detect them once infected
if some scanners found something, it is probably not a rootkit.
Which scanners picked something up?
